for instance, in this post the admins describe the desire to create a server which is very friendly/non-toxic and i like that.
if you want to subscribe from another server, you can search for !lgbtq_plus@beehaw.org from your lemmy account and then click subscribe. The same for !technology@beehaw.org or other communities. basically, what @username is for users, !communityname is for communities. (And because i did’nt use auto completion for the community names, it show up as regular text, and not something you can click on.
