Alcohol companies used to (still do?) be part of the lobbying effort to keep weed illegal. They’ve known for a long time.

IIRC, RJ Reynolds has had a copyright for a cannabis cigarette package design, “Camel Blues”, since the late 70s. Hmm…

It’s not as bad for you as alcohol but it has its own drawbacks that must be managed. Also, it’s not that great to be around stoned out folks.

Vaping it is better for you than smoking it, but smoking it isn’t near as bad as smoking cigarettes. Obviously eating it is healthiest, but it’s not everyone’s favorite.

I mostly use a dab rig, which technically counts as vaporizing rather than smoking, and I find that low temp dabbing is a good replacement for nursing a drink, high temp dabbing or smoking an actual bong is a good replacement for shots

Anecdotally, weed is hard to dose I go from a subclinical dose to a wicked depressive hangover spanning multiple days with weed whereas alcohol just keeps me feeling bad for a day. There’s also a lot of focus on making 1000mg gummies that you can have 1/10th of instead of a steady .1mg per gummie that you can have 50 of. It doesn’t replace a beer socially, yet.

But I’m interested in what’s developing in research as far as quality and reliable dosage and most importantly the type of high. There’s a lot of variables and I hope that the research can happen because some people react so positively to it.

Used to hit the bar every Friday. Now I have a bottle and a half of wine gathering dust in my fridge. I opened the half bottle a month ago.

Tbh nowadays, weed makes me feel good and alcohol makes me feel hot, sweaty, and sleepy. Maybe im just getting old though

No shit, it’s hard enough to get off the couch, let alone go find or buy more alcohol. Personally alcohol taints the high so I never mix them anyway.

The number of daily or nearly daily users of marijuana overtook daily users of alcohol in 2022 in the US, passing it for the first time. Checks out.

I can vouch for this one. Went from near-daily ~3 drinks to maybe 3 drinks a week, if that. Never even want a drink; have to convince myself to have one, and even then, I don’t usually finish it. I credit cannabis (partial credit to a psilocybin experience) for killing my alcohol habit

I’m not addicted to either. I drink a bit socially, like 2 or 3 drinks when I go out with friends maybe once a week. Lately even that much alcohol fucks me up for 2 days. One puff of week is enough to replace a similar buzz to 2 beers for me so I can avoid drinking. And weed is just less addictive. I really dislike the smoke though, and want to change to a herb vapourizer.

So cannabis being a gateway drug is actually correct?

A gateway to a more sober life.

Booze is good in certain settings. Like going out to the bar (obviously) and hanging with multiple people. Getting high is just better in general for regular use. Near zero hangover and it’s actually helping your body instead of poisoning it.

I wouldn’t trade my college drinking days for weed, drinking has it’s place. But weed is simply overall better.

I expect a lot more lobbying coming from big alcohol simply because kids are drinking less. Alcohol is getting more expensive and becoming less cool.

true. the cost, but its too convenient this happened the same time. interesting, its 200$ for a single prescription for both wegovy and omezpic, so not too expensive, relative to other medication.
