No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does anyone have advice for brain zaps?English
2·18 days agoI also went through this. I also just toughed it out and radically accepted and expected them to happen tbh, and I didn’t taper off either, I just got off them immediately which is inadvisable but I have a thing where i’d rather have big pain fast than small pain slow. I got them multiple times every minute or so for (I think) between 2 and two weeks.
Be very kind to yourself, give yourself some grace and treat yourself. you’re going through a lot and you deserve to be given TLC while you’re going through it <3 Sending you strength!

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Does Mastodon bring anything of value to a Lemmy user?English
8·1 month agoI personally don’t like microblogging platforms in general. It’s cool that there’s an alternative to twitter and the like, but I just have no pull towards platforms that emulate that kind of environment.
I think it’s great that it’s so popular and has introduced a lot of people to the fediverse and spread awareness of ethical alternatives to corporate slop, but is not for me.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•DEI ACTUALLY CAN HELP PEOPLE.English
17·1 month agoI’m not upvoting this.
it’s a fantastic, well-reasoned post, but I don’t believe it’s an unpopular opinion to at all.
The public conversation around DEI is highly polarized which creates a false impression that a balanced, pragmatic view like this is rare. I think you’ve articulated a middle ground that most people hold

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Seeing NSFW post titles just makes me want to respond to them neutrally.English
4·1 month agoAny intentional choice made to capture human attention functions as an algorithm.
For instance, when a creator posts an intentionally silly title, it triggers a predictable urge in users to comment on that silliness. This deliberate cause-and-effect cycle means the creator’s strategy itself is the engagement-driving algorithm. A good example of this human-designed system is ragebaiting which systematically uses manufactured outrage to multiply views and comments

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•My 1TB hard drive took a crap reformatted it, lost all my info, and it works now. How do I use a cloud or drive online to backup my stuff so I am not relying just on physical and can dl anywhere?English
4·2 months agoGenerally speaking, you’ll want to follow the 3-2-1 storage rule.
(3 Copies, 2 Media Types, 1 Off-site)
Copy 1 would be the original info saved on your main drive or wherever you access them immediately. Copy 2 is a local backup saved to an external hard drive or a home server, ideally one that’s powered off and not connected to direct power (lightning strikes)
Copy 3 can either be a cloud storage backup (such as Google Drive or OneDrive) or a copy kept at a friend’s house.
Really cool! Looks kinda like a psychedelic South African flag.

Hmmmm.

Social media sites should do this. There’s never a good reason to be on [Insert Corporate Slop Social Media Website here] at 3AM.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is there a website that can tell you the new names to I guess "classify" people? Like the R word, or the N word or skin color or nationaility? For ex. Is African American still acceptable and so forthEnglish
8·2 months agoI’m probably being overly semantic but perhaps saying “A person with a blue hat and dark skin” would be the least abrasive way of putting it? That said, obsessing over endless semantic refinement and searching for a flawless alternative that does not exist for fear of hypothetical offense will lead to recursive over-correction ad nauseam

Spore@pawb.social•"I was given that opportunity to go crazy and do something kind of insane" - Will Wright and Maxis look back on nine years making SporeEnglish
2·2 months agoSpore was my hyperfixation for a good long while. It was off-beat, quirky, had an eccentric personality and was completely different than anything else out there and the creature creator was absolutely amazing. It was everything that a popular mainstream game wasn’t, which is exactly the reason why no profit-driven business would fund something like it. Nowadays, even if something is profitable, if the margin is big enough, it’s considered a flop. I am convinced though, that unfortunately for Spore, SecuROM is the reason it saw no future.

This opinion is so ignorant, gatekeepy and out of touch that I have no idea where to even begin.
