31·1 month agoI asked Jeeves, and he told me it still exists. To celebrate, I played some Neopets and then logged into a fun MUSH game.
“Lawrence, what would you do if you had a million dollars?”
“I’ll tell you what I’d do, man. Two trees at the same time, man!”

4·2 months agoNot an expert, but I found this article (stupid video in corner warning): https://www.cbsnews.com/news/taylor-farms-mexico-fda-inspection-cyclosporiasis-outbreak/
Looks like the FDA does inspections of foreign facilities, so there should have been a US inspection in Mexico at the farm/plant. However, the FDA is underfunded for its targets and has been for years, and then the cuts made a bad situation worse by firing people.

5·2 months agoThe lettuce and this (jalapeño) outbreak were both from farms in Mexico, I believe

1·4 months agoFascinating! As a native speaker, I got 89/100 (“you know 72,000 words”), but perfect on the core and intermediate levels. There were a few that I knew I’d heard before, but couldn’t quite place, and then there were some words that I just got lucky with my experiences, like having recently reread Gulliver’s Travels and being asked about “brobdingnagian,” which literally comes from that book.
I’m curious what other native speakers get, and how difficult even the lower levels are for those learning English.
In the past 2 weeks, I’ve played Tie Fighter and Dune 2. Glad I had over the minimum 640 KB of RAM for Dune - it’s pricey these days but worth it for a smoother experience!

Sounds like an anime plot to me! “Old Man River: How I Discovered My Boss is an 8000-Year Old River God”
I did this for a while when I had an injury and couldn’t walk easily, but the produce selection was always trash. Plus shopping (and maybe delivery) fees were very expensive. How do you get not-crappy produce if you do this?
I thought it was “Sodom and Gamera” for way too long. Imagine some giant, fire-breathing turtle out there getting attacked by God for being too sinful or whatever

Idiocracy
I thought it was silly because of how crazy far-fetched and unrealistic it was, since that stuff could never happen in real life. But now that kind of comedy has aged terribly and is no longer funny at all.
