So, this is the place where I’m going to be generally hanging out and trolling around, while my Pixelfed, Mastodon, and Blacksky accounts are going to be primarily art posting accounts, and I also have a Nooki account.
I’m also going to start to be active more on here than on lemmy.org, so I’m making this my primary Lemmy account now.
I’ll link the other socials I’m varying levels of active on below, plus my lemmy.org account which I’m demoting to my secondary account if that instance is going to be more unstable from now on.
I didn’t get banned, I left Reddit voluntarily when they announced that they were going to be increasing censorship on their site a year or so ago.
My reasoning was, 'It's only a matter of time before I *do* get banned for something stupid, so I might as well leave this site on my own while I'm still ahead.'
Goddammit, first MagiPack, now this, who’s next? I guess in the future the only way you’ll be able to pirate games anymore is through torrents which you have no idea if they’re safe or not?
What’s probably gonna happen is a rapid buildout of infrastructure for cloud compute by reusing the datacenters for things like Windows 365 subscriptions.
There’s gotta be a second ulterior motive besides AI behind these datacenters, and the fact that Win365 even exists could be one such motive.

Wouldn’t that depend on the format, too? Like I kinda doubt 8mm/Super8 and 16mm/Super16 is infinitely upscalable, ditto for 110 or 35mm half-frame.

The funny thing is, that ‘heavy duty’ badge is deceptive marketing, pick-ups at their heaviest are medium-duty, maxing out at class-3 with a GVWR between 10,001 and 14k lbs; true heavy-duty rigs are class-7 and class-8, with a GVWR between 26,001 and 33k lbs and 33,001+ lbs respectively, and those need a CDL to drive.
For further reference, the heaviest weight class you can get away with on a normal license in the US is class-6 with a GVWR between 19,501 and 26k lbs. Pick-ups are class-1 through 3 with GVWRs ranging up to 14k lbs, medium-duty chassis-cabs are typically class-3 through 6 with GVWRs ranging between 14k and 26k lbs, and heavy-duty rigs are class-7 and 8 with GVWRs ranging between 26,001 and 33,001+ lbs, which need a CDL to drive, like I said above.
But I guess selling pick-ups as their true weight class doesn’t move as much units as the deceptive ‘heavy duty’ badge on a light-duty or medium-duty rig.

Hell no, he shouldn’t use an LLM to finish what is basically his life’s work.
They’re using the fact that everyone else both already owns a Google or iOS device, and does everything on those devices, to punish desktop and alt mobile OS users.
The fact that this is going on right as AluminumOS is down the pipes, and right as rigged parts prices threaten to kill desktops as an option to begin with makes this especially sus.
The way things are going right now, I won’t be surprised if we see a computing future where you’re either on a Google or Apple-controlled device, or you’re on a thin client tied to a cloud subscription, and you won’t own your tech anymore.
Bezos’ ‘Give up your PC and rent from our cloud’ threat is sounding less and less like a threat and more and more likely to become reality.
How soon before reCAPTCHA-encumbered sites are blocked on desktops entirely unless you’re on ChromeOS or the upcoming AluminumOS?
It’s going to be hard to completely kill off the Fediverse unless you block all ways in which it can be hosted, to include meshnets and the dark web.
On top of that, it’ll be really hard if not impossible to kill protocols which by their design are independently governed and completely open like ActivityPub and compatible protocols; it’ll be easier to kill ATproto because it has a centralized plc.directory ledger which if that gets taken out, the entire protocol goes down with it, that and even if you self-host a PDS, you still have to interact with Bsky corporate’s centralized infrastructure at some point, where with ActivityPub, each instance is independent of the other.
Given how spread-out Lemmy is, it’ll be pretty hard to screw it in the same way Reddit got screwed, though. Like, if a given instance doesn’t like you, or you don’t like that given instance, there are plenty of others for you to move to, or you could host your own if you have the hardware and admin skills.
