Cast iron lasts multiple lifetimes and only gets better as it’s being used so it’s not really even a competition in my books. It has its downsides but at least I’m not replacing it every 5 years or so.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•No sport played and watched by millions of people is inheritantly boring. All of them can be entertaining if you choose to understand them.English
6·2 days agoThere are infinite things to pay attention to so I don’t feel the need to learn to be interested about something I feel no natural pull towards when there already are countless of other things to focus on. Watching sports isn’t anywhere near the top of the list of things I’d be getting into if I suddenly had more than 24 hours in a day to spend.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What will the majors changes be after the AI bubble pops?
101·4 days agoInternet was the “AI” of the dotcom bubble. It didn’t go anywhere after the bubble burst and neither will AI. What will go away are the companies with only hype but no product. Amazon and eBay came about during the dotcom bubble and now companies like OpenAI and Anthropic will likely be equivalent ones.
The bubble bursts when investors start losing faith that the company they have invested into will become profitable so they pull out, which makes other investors get scared so they pull out too and then the company goes under.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is the difference between terrorist attack vs military strike if both kill civilians?
92·4 days agoThe difference is intentions. The intentions of a terrorist attack is to cause terror in the civilian population.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Will the next president of America have to do a world wide apology tour for this administration? Kind of like celebs do when they get their ass in a sling.
31·4 days agoI don’t think it matters. The rest of the world has already learned that the US can only be trusted for four years at a time at best.
It’s not like people are going to start trusting Russia either once Putin is gone.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think its actually possible to start a real honest business in 2026?
8·4 days agoI started my own handyman business 3 years ago and I don’t consider it a scam nor did I need to invest millions up-front. Not even thousands in-fact. I earn a comfortable living from it and tons of gratitude from happy customers.
It’s pretty easy to stand out to your advantage by being fair and honest. People notice it and they tell other people too.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Things don't need to have hands-on, human intent to be good or enjoyable.English
101·4 days agoMany people hate human created content if you tell them it was done with AI and vice versa. It’s not the content itself but the story people tell themselves about it.
It’s the same as saying all toupees look bad. No, only the bad toupees that you can detect do - the rest do not.
People with tattoos used to be considered rebels. Now it’s the people without any.

6·5 days agoWho “everyone”?
I thought it’s pretty common knowledge that solar panels are more efficient in cold climate.

1·7 days agoWe have good definitions for what we mean by the word consciousness. We just don’t know how it comes about.
It’s the fact of experience. That it is like something to be. That experience has qualia.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Alternative social platforms will never become popular until the left stops purity testingEnglish
34·10 days agoThis applies in real life too - not just social media platforms. The extremists of your own side are often far more damaging to your cause than the ones on the other side of the aisle. It’s the loud minority keeping everyone else a hostage. I’d even go as far as to claim that much of the success of “the right” can be explained by the failures of “the left.”
Interestingly, a similar thing is happening with pride. I know lots of other gay guys who want nothing to do with them simply because just being gay is no longer enough to be accepted into the group. No - you have to sign off on a big laundry list of other completely unrelated stances and if you don’t, you’re effectively straight and also fascist.
The right has much less of an issue with me being gay than the left has with me not agreeing with (insert any far left grievance). It’s just one of the many examples of how it’s not that men are being pulled towards the right but rather being pushed there.

I wasn’t expecting you to start insulting me over a disagreement. You could’ve made your point without going there. I genuinely have no idea what you hoped to achieve with that.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Are there natural fertilizers that do not come from animal poop?
31·11 days agoA properly maintained composting toilet produces what is effectively compost. It smells like soil, not poop. I believe the tradition is that you empty the toilet and then let it sit for a year while the decomposing reaction is going on and it’s safe to use as fertilizer the next year.

21·11 days agoNot really for as long as people engaging in the comments were real people. Though, then again, if they all were bots too but I didn’t know and couldn’t tell, then I’m not sure what the harm there even would be. If anything, I’d only expect the engagement to be more civil.

Here’s so far the best seasoning method for cast iron that I’ve found after having tried multiple ones and not having too great of a success. It can’t be overstated how important it is to remove all excess oil. It doesn’t take much to ruin the results.
