He responded to this rumor in his autobiography saying “If I really got my ribs removed, I would have been busy sucking my own dick on The Wonder Years instead of chasing Winnie Cooper. Plus, who really has time to be killing puppies when you can be sucking your own dick? I think I’m gonna call the surgeon in the morning”

“I think it’s mostly, if not all, a matter of better diagnostic tools and procedures.”
This is the winner right here. If you ask your parents or grandparents about people they went to school with who were “a little weird” or “really shy” or “really into trains” or whatever it is. It was all just undiagnosed autism. The percentage of people with autism hasn’t changed. The percentage of people correctly diagnosed has. And of course it’s a spectrum. In the past they only diagnosed severely autistic people. Now with more understanding of it, we realize that it comes in several mild flavors as well.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•What if LGBT adopts a white and grey striped flag to replace the rainbow? Then Florida would have to abolish crosswalks entirely.
3·2 months agoAnd they are literally naturally occurring. Like… I wonder how mad conservatives get when it rains on a sunny day, and a rainbow comes popping up in the sky reminding them of their closeted homosexuality.
Somewhere inbetween. I had a friend who was a cook and I didn’t know shit about cooking. He would come over, then we would go to the supermarket and smell the different produce, and look at the meats and come up with something to cook. We would buy it, go back and chef it up. Learned a whole lot about cooking and flavor profiles etc. Some of the best times I’ve ever had.
I’m a groomsman in his wedding in November. For the bachelor party we are renting a cabin with some people. We are going to dream up a menu, go shopping, and chef it up again. I can’t wait.

4·2 months agoI can tell when I’m driving from NY into CT when suddenly there’s traffic for no reason and everybody is driving like an asshat.
I used GPT to help me plan a 2 week long road trip with my family. It was pretty fucking awesome at finding cool places to stop and activities for my kids to do.
It definitely made some stupid ass suggestions that would have routed us far off our course, or suggested stopping at places 15 minutes into our trip, but sifting through the slop was still a lot quicker than doing all of the research myself.
I also use GPT to make birthday cards. Have it generate an image of some kind of inside joke etc. I used to do these by hand, and this makes it way quicker.
I also use it at work for sending out communications and stuff. It can take the information I have and format it and professionalize it really quick.
I also use it for Powershell scripting here and there, but it does some really wacky stuff sometimes that I have to go in and fix. Or it halucinates entire modules that don’t exist and when I point it out it’s like “good catch! That doesn’t exist!” and it always gives me a little chuckle. My rule with AI and Powershell is that I don’t ask it to do things that I don’t already know how to do. I like to learn things and be good at my job, but I don’t mind using GPT to help with some of the busy work.
The Pirates of Dark Water.
Please. For fuck’s sake. Please just complete this part of my childhood.
They set out and started an adventure that should have been many many seasons, but one day I went to watch it and it was just gone.
As a kid I had no ear on the ground about shows getting canceled and back in the 90s I don’t think anybody really did.
It’s like if it was DBZ and they got the dragon ball locators to revive Goku after he died and they collected like 3 of them and then they just stopped airing it.
I honestly have never gone back and watched Pirates of Dark Water, and it’s probably trash, but I will never forget about how I was so invested in a story as a kid and it just… Stopped.
It was gone like a fart in the wind.
The SNES beat em up was also super difficult and not that good. It seemed like an idea that was built around sucking up quarters at the arcade, but apparently it want popular enough.
Fucking Pirates of Dark Water, man… I will never forget.

10·3 months agoVery curious about the three “question mark vs question mark” fatalities. UFO collision? Skateboard jousting?
No, not dual audio. I want more Control. On my Peloton bike I can adjust the volume of the host and the music independently. I want that for TV and movies. Two volume rockers on my remote. One for voice and one for “everything else”. I know the technology exists, and it would not be crazy complicated to implement. Well maybe for broadcast TV… But for anything streaming, this should benrelativwly easy to do. I know that the voice and music and FX tracks already exist separately digitally. Let me mix it myself.

7·4 months agoThis one is so crazy to me. I have two friends that seem to be facing this issue right now. One took 6 months off after being laid off from his job because he wanted to, had enough money to, and just wanted to take some time off and travel etc. He keeps getting grilled about it, and has been job hunting for another 6 months on top of it. Now he’s been unemployed for a year and is getting grilled even harder for it. Why is that a problem? Like why do people see that as some kind of flaw? “I had the resources to take some time off so I did” seems perfectly fine to me
The other friend was suffering from severe burnout and decided to take a year off to get his own mental health in order. Once again, I don’t see the problem with that. If you can afford to take a year off and that’s what you want to do with your time and money, then right on, go do that. Life is for living. But now he’s having a very hard time getting a job because of it.
Its kinda bullshit.
The cast of Vegitales lied to me!
I have to disagree. 9 times out of 10, the song is being drowned out by the sound of the entire car rattling from the bass.
Personally, I prefer a much flatter EQ when listening to my music. I often times turn up the high-mids just a tad. I love a crispy high hat. Jacking the shit out of the bass is kind of spitting on the sound engineer that mixed and mastered the music. It’s like taking a medium rare A5 wagyu and dumping A1 sauce on it.
Also you don’t get paid out for “unlimited PTO” when you leave. I have something like 45 days of PTO saved up, and if/when I leave my company, I will be paid for those 45 unused days along with any other severance package that is included. Unlimited PTO is a trap.

5·4 months agoThis is the part that bothers me the most. Why does it now cost more for no RGB? I would very happily put my components in a black metal box with good airflow, but that costs extra now. Back in the early 2000s Lian Li used to make really simple brushed aluminum cases and they were beautiful and perfect. Now everything is tempered glass and RGB, sometimes at the cost of airflow/cooling. It’s insane.
One of these days I hope to eventually own a home. When I do, I want to buy one of the industrial-ass washing machines and dryers they use in laundromat and hotels. I’m sure it will be very expensive, but I firmly believe in “buy once, cry once”. I want a laundry machine that is built to run 24/7 for 10+ years. Used at a personal pace, it should last forever.

“That’s just the waayy it iss”
These are two different things, and it’s usually worded as such:
Expiration Date: we cannot guarantee that eating food after this date will not cause sickness. Eat at your won risk, and we are not responsible if you get sick.
Best By Date: basically means nothing. We think it tastes better before this date but there are no actual health implications after this date.
Fuck “Best By” dates. I’ll decide if it tastes good or not, and if I don’t like it, I’ll throw it out. As long as there are no actual health implications. You usually only find expiration dates on dairy meat, and sometimes bread.
