I’m in Italy, I do use it less but for the time I used it after the takeover I didn’t notice too many differences, even in English content. Even videos that are very positive about China (I get them on YouTube too)
Facebook on the other hand, which I very rarely use, had a terrible period with tons of rightwing propaganda, nothing to do with my profile.

Right now trump can either reference Biden, knowing people are sick of that, or he simply doesn’t have a definite target, “the radical left”. An emerging leader of the centre would give him a target. So it makes sense they stay quiet.
I’m not a us citizen tho, I know that there is a lot of political activism, especially around the DSA, and the recent big protests are good signs. What I expect is that whoever ends up being the democratic leader will have a very hard time being a centrist. The demo-socialists have a big chance, but corporate media is also going to play its role in supporting a rethoric of “now that we’ve seen crazy let’s go for someone respectable, not another crazy”.
The opposition, in the wide sense, is basically Sanders and the DSA, in my view, because they are popular and they are winning some local elections, including NY. But I still doubt they are going to be the face of the dem strategy for 2028, let alone the midterms.

I also think we should not separate by gender, and instead have multiple tiers of experience at the Olympics.
But there is some truth on those who argue that having women’s sport encourages women to play sports in general, as less women play sports than men (I think). Even if there was no measurable general difference between the biological sexes, males would still generally outperform just out of statistics, because there is more of them.
So the deal is actually cultural. Society needs to abandon the idea that gender has anything to do with sports. Just like we do for skin color or height. So that when a girl sees a football match with 18 men, 3 women and 1 nonbinary, she doesn’t feel like football isn’t for her out of gender.
Like, I myself like volleyball, but all throughout my experience I’ve noticed how I had to struggle far more than my peers simply because I was short and physically weak (struggles eating during teenage). I also did Judo for a bit, there are tiers by weight, meaning I competed with 10yo children as a 14yo. What I mean is that while I can agree a child would notice differences out of gender, it’s not like this is something new, acknowledging physical differences and accepting them is a key part of personal growth in sports already, gender would be just yet another element.

Sure not all children will be that tech savvy to circumvent the limits, but then they could access it like I was shown porn for the first time before breadband: a random kid during a school trip had a porn video saved on his phone. Only a few phones had video capabilities at the time, now it’s commonplace.
So yeah I will never believe the good will of such bills

Since last summer i put a series of repeating activities on my calendar, one for every day of the week. Their main effect is reminding me that my free time could be spent on personal prpjects that do not necessarily need to lead to something public.
It also encourages intentional boredom, as opposed to scrolling. I don’t know if it improved my life a lot, i end up ignoring the suggested activities most of the times, but it helps me keeping that frame of mind, and it probably allowed me to put effort in a few things i care for.

And it definitely tries to do things differently. It’s all a connected story, episodes rarely are stand-alone, and moral messages are mixed inside the story
That said, as you go on, you’ll find wonderful ideas that would nave been awesome on the 90s too. Surely a few things will seem off, but the concepts are very startrek. At least to me.

Italian here, I had luck with my English teachers and my parents and then the internet encouraged me to learn extra
The sooner our society abandons individualism and goes back to community oriented structures, the faster these problems will disappear.
Mass media, mass religion, mass communication, they all included manipulation. From telling lies, to telling only part of the truth, to salience and propaganda. AI is the latest scary tool.
The issue is that we expect the individual to have the tools to defend themselves from this. That’s not how it works. We need human connection, small family communities, where members help each others on the various aspects of life, including following public discourse and politics. When everyone has their sense of belonging to a place of care, the value of money and of the mass manipulations it uses falls and fails to accomplish a thing.
Let’s also stop believing that people vote mainly based on how easy it is to manipulate them. People vote based on their culture, their experiences, their overall mood on how things are going. The turnout in New York should show that. No fake news on Mamdani had an effect that comes even close to people’s connection to a grassroots campaign, people’s dissatisfaction with Trump and billionaires, people’s cultural affiliation to a young immigrant that speaks of affordability, nurseries, and pride to be one’s true self against discrimination.
Time limits on apps where I tend to have arguments on politics
I’m a bit scared of the commitment, I work full time and barely have energy for projects
But mainly I would either start my own deserted community, or take over some that I’d be unqualified to manage
I don’t think it’s the kind of socialisation I seek anymore, if I had the time I’d rather play a game of tribal wars and be part of a big organised tribe. But IRL stuff is probably what would interest me the most, unions or activism.
