2·10 days agoI’ve been there too. It’s such a waste of time, and then everyone’s pressured to work extra hours to make up for it.

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL about “Second Screen Viewing” and that Netflix pushes writers to make scripts and dialogues simpler to keep viewers who are on their phones engagedEnglish
411·10 days agoNetflix had some good years, then it seemed like they were starting to get pretty inconsistent, and now it seems like they’re entering their straight-up slop era.

2·11 days agoI always think I’m going to do this, and I never once have. Next time for sure…
it’s reassuring at least we pick the very best, smartest and most qualified leaders to manage all this.
Reminds me of that episode of Futurama: “Fortunately, our handsomest politicians came up with a cheap, last minute way to combat global warming.”

65·13 days agoI don’t think it’s making fun of anything in particular. This guy’s whole deal is coming up with fake features for apps that would be incredibly annoying.
The Picard Maneuver@piefed.worldOPtoMicroblog Memes@lemmy.world•It's probably not reasonable to expect this to improve in 2026. English
2·14 days agoI procrastinated doing this for years, then finally set up a NAS a few months ago and backed everything up so that I could make the switch. It was worth it.
Does it help if I tell you that I love my cat more than RAM and would never trade him?

8·17 days agoJust looked it up, and I’m seeing that his name is a sort of contradiction. His first name is “Light”, and the characters in his last name mean “night god”.
It sounds like sort of a “light vs dark” / “good vs evil” wordplay, although I don’t know if that counts as a pun.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How do you deal with grief?English
21·18 days agoWith grief, the only way out is through. Unlike other mental ailments such as depression or anxiety, you’re not going to find a cognitive distortion or flawed line of thinking that is responsible for the distress and can be challenged. Grief is logical, and we have to feel it until it becomes less intense.
What we can do is modulate how much we’re processing at any given moment to try to keep it manageable. Think of it like that saying, “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” You can’t change the total size of the task, but you can control how big of bites you take.
Finding what helps you reduce the “bites” will be personal, but starting with some general coping skills like “thought-stopping”, meditation, or any activity that keeps your mind active and occupied is a good start.

Map Enthusiasts@sopuli.xyz•Chance of Being Born in Each Continent in 2026English
5·19 days agoIf you can figure out the answer to this question, you deserve a Nobel prize.
Every country on earth seems to be seeing the same phenomenon: the more developed and comfortable life in your country gets, the more your birthrate tanks. There are lots of theories, but nobody seems to have a good explanation or know what to do about it.
I’d completely forgotten that this had a name!

Fediverse@piefed.social•Random idea: a federated alternative to Amazon Prime built from independent shops?English
20·23 days agoThis seems like a good idea. I don’t know how anyone else realistically competes with Amazon on their own.
