just not sure what “they” are claiming beyond that (or who “they” is meant to refer to, for that matter), but the comparison to iraq, afghanistan, vietnam, etc. made me guess the op was claiming that the commonly understood cause and justification of the war was false.

oooh, conspiracy slop, neat. 📷
(in all seriousness though, is this post trying to suggest that russia didn’t actually invade ukraine?)
i immediately assumed this was a joke about a sports team, and sure enough. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit_Lions
alas, i don’t think there’s actually Panthera leo running around michigan.
there used to be a tradition in my high school where seniors would pull some kind of prank. in my freshman year, a group of kids pulled an amazing prank where they put glue in all the door locks in the school. when everyone got there the next morning, nobody could get into the buildings. most of the students just went home that day before the administration got some semblance of a handle on things, and the remainder of us were herded into the gym for half the day as they started getting classrooms opened. almost all of the locks had to be replaced, costing thousands of dollars, the school of course lost substantial funding from all the walkouts that day, and the kids responsible were caught and faced criminal charges.
there was not another senior prank as long as i was there.

they don’t actually show the video, fwiw. just grisly words.
juliebean@lemmy.zipto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do most ppl feel the desire to tell someone (such as their SO) about their day?2·20 days agoi believe that neurotypicals often naturally want to share their day with one another. as for me, i had to make a concerted effort to make it a habit. i felt that regularly telling my partner about my day and hearing about hers would be a good routine for keeping informed and bonding.

“He resisted his homosexual urges, and remained faithful to his heterosexual wife until the very day he shot himself.”
that doesn’t mean you refuse to treat us though, it just means your treatment might take the form of giving a referral to a specialist. you don’t refuse to treat a patient with glasses just cause you aren’t an optometrist.
wow, that led me down a fuckin rabbit hole into the wee hours. Marcus Garvey was, uh, some piece of work.
juliebean@lemmy.zipto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•did you guys use another word in place of the subject when talking about a serious subject?12·2 months agothat’s gotta be the most fucked up example of self censorship word replacement i’ve ever seen. ‘unalive’ sounds like something from 1984, but at least it means what it means. ‘repent’ instead of ‘rape’ sounds like you think sexual violence is a moral good.
but in short, no. the more serious the subject, the more important to speak plainly. if the subject isn’t appropriate for the situation, then drop the subject, don’t sugarcoat the language.
i’m 35, took AP us history in high school in california, and i’m pretty sure i’d never heard of the scopes trial before just now. It seems like a somewhat esoteric thing to teach about to me? idk why he would be expected to know about it.
just get yourself a UV flashlight, or bring some flowers to your nearest laser tag arena. this is just how stuff looks under blacklight sometimes (which isn’t to say it isn’t cool, just that you don’t need fancy tech to see it),
if the invasion isn’t the commonly understood cause and justification for the war then i have no idea what might be.
