This is obviously better than Russia, but it ought to be a wake up call to remove dependency on gas altogether.

Unfortunately the latest budget indicates they’re not going to hurry up any transition.

Then what should they do when Norway starts invading Sweden, they have done it before in 1064!

Good, part of the Union, mutual defense pacts… there is plenty of reasons to think this is a good step.

Yeah, they are part of the European Economic Area, but not part of the EU proper. Same as Iceland. The main reason for opposing full membership for the longest time has actually been fishing rights, which are often more strict in the EU

Not necessarily more strict, but joining the Union would open the waters for European fisheries which is politically unpopular.

Except for climate reasons, or even the generally beneficial goal of energy independence for its own sake.

Norway is a powerhouse by its own rights and its good that they can choose this path if that’s what suits their country best. It’s also good that the EU was setup to accommodate arrangements like this.

And they are part of the unified European market. So they have all the obligations of being an EU member without any of the voting rights. Plus they pay to be member as well.

Autonomy has its price I guess.

Transitioning to renewables would be better, but if we need to depend on one country, I can’t think of one better to rely on than Norway.
