I’ll add more apps to this list as they are released.

Since all these apps are being constantly updated, I’ll also include the version number. Please don’t let my post stop you from using any of these apps. My complaints will probably be fixed very, very soon.

Summit v0.1.22 (Day 1): The app is pretty neat since they added inboxes halfway through my day. The app feels pretty neat overall. It will be much better once they add profiles. I just wish they had an infinite scrolling feature. The community selection feels kinda wonky though.

Connect v1.0.73 (Day 2): This is probably the best app for Android right now; but I obviously can’t tell since I haven’t even tried half of them yet. Nothing feels missing from this app. It’s great and has all the features I could want from a Lemmy client. The only issue I had was that some communities sometimes don’t appear in the hamburger menu. I check up on my Stephen King community every few hours but I often have to search for it to find it. Overall an amazing app.

fennec v0.0.4 (Day 3): Overall a pretty neat app. It doesn’t have too many formatting options; no button for adding pics to comments. The reversed voting buttons were kinda annoying and sometimes when a post had too many comments or votes, or when I was deep into a comment thread, it wouldn’t show the upvote button. Also idk if it’s just me being dumb but I can’t figure out how to edit posts…

Thunder v0.2.1 11 (Day 4): It’s a decent app. I don’t really have much else to say about it. My only complaint is that you can’t add images to comments and posts. If you don’t really care about that it’s a good choice for your main app.

Lemming 1.0.0-alpha05 (Day 5): It feels different from the others apps I’ve tried so far (probably just because of the unusual hamburger menu) but it’s great. Profiles and inboxes are missing but i liked the UI colors quite a lot which made scrolling through it fun for me. Also, swiping to upvote requires a very small swipe on this app so I used it quite a lot whereas I literally never used it on the other apps. Pretty great and it’s probably gonna be one of the best when inboxes and profiles are added.

Missing wefwef. Every app has its flaws, but Connect is the more feature-rich.

It’s easy to complain about the bugs in every one of them, but let’s not forget that for the vast majority of us, we didn’t even know that Lemmy ever existed a month ago.

    Progress has been astounding

Well put. The developers behind the apps have been on their toes to provide a more accessible experience to the community, albeit with different visions. :-)

I didn’t realize this at first, but using Firefox it just installs as a home screen shortcut, but if you install from Chrome it adds it to your app drawer like an actual native app.

It installed like an app for me. Then they updated and told to remove and re-add. And now it just installs as a home screen shortcut.

Huh, Fennec is the name of my web browser. Which I definitely recommend, it’s a fork of Firefox stable with all proprietary and telemetry removed.

I keep hoping for Infinity for Reddit to port to “for Lemmy”/“for kbin”, but the original dev has no interest (they’re converting to a paid model) and so far no one’s seriously thought about forking it.

So I’ve just been sticking with the mobile webpage. And honestly, it’s not that bad. I’m using a few userscripts (mobile Firefox for the win) to clean it up just a tad, and it’s honestly pretty good.

The nice thing about using multiple apps is that you get tons of updates and improvements (?)

I use jerboa with blurred nsfw for daily use and connect at home when I don’t care so I don’t have to mess with any settings… Until sync comes out!!!

I was at the passport office all day and didn’t get a chance to use Lemming properly. I was gonna write something with the few minutes of scrolling I did before going to bed but decide that wasn’t really fair to the app. I’m gonna give it a second day before moving on to Liftoff.

Which app deals best with hiding already read content? I only found the option in Connect to hide the posts I already scrolled over. Joey for areddit had a post contextual menu item to hide everything above, that was the most convenient to me. Or is there any other technique to not to stare at the same content at each session ?

Lemmy itself can hide read posts, so they app never even sees them; you can find this setting on your profile

That’s nice to know, thanks, and what about posts you scrolled over but didn’t bother to read still could be handled as read?

Can’t find thunder on the Playstore, so far it’s either connect or liftoff. Connect works better but liftoff looks better. But I really hope boost for Lemmy will be released soon

You can download the latest releases on github. It’s still very much an alpha, but I think it flows the best of any app I’ve tried.

Anyone have one that was like Reddit’s “Bacon Reader”? That was my go-to app for the site.
