“OMG, I have an iPhone!” Yeah, you have an iPhone, so what? You’re the best? You can FaceTime your friends, despite you and your friends probably having, like, 7 other apps to do so? And no UI customizability or jailbreaking?

I’m just unable to understand the Apple/iOS hype. It makes my eyes roll. I’m content with my Samsung and Android, thanks.

Holy shit, are we still doing this? Just use whatever phone you want, who gives a shit. People who care deeply about others’ phone preference are weird. Signed, an iPhone user.

You don’t understand apple hype and you’re a Samsung guy?

You are in one of two large marketing demographics. Hope this clears that up.

I have an iPhone, and I don’t think I’m better than anyone else.

Well, except for people who judge other people based on what type of phone they carry. Those people are douchebags.

I have much bigger things to worry about. Like this hole in my sock that I’ve only had three months. Now that’s an outrage.

Yoo, good socks where you at? I’m convinced the good socks are all the ones people lose in the laundry somehow, and that’s why we end up with the ones that fall apart so fast.

I’m not. I want a workable Linux phone. Mobian on a OnePlus 6 gets close, but not quite there. I’m happy to deal with not completely ready software, but i need workable hardware at decent specs. The OP6 has workable specs, and you can get a good lots of stuff working, but it’s still missing some critical hardware support like camera and a lot of the sensors, and better battery management (though it still does surprisingly well). Screw all these vendors for not mainlining their hardware into the kernel. And fuck Google for enabling that behavior.

Is this even a thing in 2023? I don’t know anyone who cares about that kind of stuff at all

The only conceivable place I can think of this conversation happening now irl is teenagers bullying each other over the type of phone they have - so I hope that’s not you getting bullied OP and having to vent here - but it’s fine if it is.

I’m definitely missing a 3rd option. I’ve been an android user from the start and I’m pretty well convinced at this point that it is simply not capable of providing the sort of user experience I want.

I’ll try a pinephone pro, some day. GNOME has potential on mobile.

I do miss my Passport. BBOS10 had the UX down, but lack of apps and general boneheadedness at BB killed it.

But yeah, apple users. Sending me unwatchable videos because iMessage is so precious it can only run on the blessed hardware. Apple can pound sand up their anticompetitive ass.

Android is the worst mobile OS, except all the others. It’s becoming worse and worse due to Google removing features for “security”, changing the UI on every release, and new features being tied to Google Play Services or Google apps.

I was so confused reading this. For about 80% of the post, I thought you were mocking elitists who hate Apple products. But… you were actually just being an anti-Apple elitist without a hint of sarcasm or self-awareness. Such a remarkable self-own.

I feel like I’ve gone back in time to, like, 2012 when this was a relevant conversation.

I’ve had a variety of Android and Apple phones over the last decade+. Apple always works and lasts more than a year or two without developing issues (hardware or software). Android has always given issues (hardware and software), often within the first year. I’ll continue to go with Apple until they give me a reason not to.

I’ve never had a problem with Android but I’ve always used Samsung. My dad gets the cheapest phones he can find in the shop though and funnily enough they don’t always work out for the best.

I’ve had a go on my mum’s iPhone a few times. Pretty much the same as Android - it’s a smartphone - but it is nice.

Eh, I think a lot of it is who you hang around with.

Both at home and at work, nobody in my community cares. We have people using Linux, Mac, and PC. Android and iPhone.

Is this a popularity thing in high school?

Along with that, it is very odd how so many of my friends (not tech people really) think that Apple created this [feature/hardware/etc] even though it has been around long before Apple started doing it.

I don’t hate Apple users or anything. Although the type of Apple user you described is the worst. That kind of user is in any realm. Bikes, phones, cars, whatever. Its not just an Apple thing… but Apple does have a lot of them.
