Back on June 13th I jumped ship from Reddit.

I went with /kbin, and I really needed an app. So I said I would make one. And, well, four hours later I had the first prototype of what would become Artemis!

A Long But Short Way

It really hasn’t been that long but it feels like a LOT of time has passed. I blame the massive inflection point we’re at in the #Threadiverse’s history. But also, just look how much of a community has formed around Artemis! Our Discord server is only a few weeks old but has over 1,200+ users. So many people are helping from every corner. And over 3,000 testers signed up!

One number remains small: Only 700 are actively using the private beta right now. But even that is soon to change…

/kbin API

This PR adds an official API to /kbin. It’s mostly done and currently in review.

Up until now, Artemis has been using a homegrown API that uses browser automation to interface with /kbin. Great for the limited beta but not really scalable.

Once the API goes live, it’ll be time to say goodbye to the scrappy backend. And hello to faster and more reliable everything.

Public Beta

Artemis is still in beta, and being public doesn’t mean leaving beta. There are still tons of features I want to add and tons of QOL/bugs I need (and want!) to fix/improve. But since Artemis is the only /kbin app, being in beta is a hell of a lot better than being nothing, and I’ll be opening up the beta within the next few weeks, based on how long the official API PR takes.

Private Beta Update

For those of you in the private beta queue: I’ll be inviting our biggest wave of testers using the https://artemis.camp instance, which runs a fork of the /kbin software with the current API changes that are in development.

I’m preparing for that by wrapping up the integration with the new API: Fixing some high priority bugs and doing an accessibility pass. Huge thanks to every tester who helped out with accessibility testing already!!

Super keen on following this one and getting the API access sorted. Be great to get a native app since heaps of people seem to want them 🚀

I’m hoping that eventually as we add more features (such as favoriting / saving content) we can extend that to the API also.

That’s awesome! Looking forward to trying the app either on Artemis.camp or in the eventual public release :)

Excited and commenting just to show support. I have to admit I’ve never used an app for any feed browsing at all (old.reddit user when I still used Reddit, even on mobile) but will try to give it a go once it goes public and see what I’ve been missing out on!

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but will this app also be available on android, ios or stay as a website link?
