So it seems that helping people out of the debt hole they’ve fallen / been tossed into makes them more able to work and contribute to society. What a concept!

Some people still can’t seem to grasp it, no matter how many times you explain it to them. Once their jobs are replaced by AI and they’re unemployable, I bet you they’ll suddenly be screaming for it.

And yet you still don’t understand the concept of guaranteed basic income. It’s not called “conditional basic income”, “the last income you’ll ever get”, nor is it called “universal basic income”. The article doesn’t even mention universal once.

ah ok. that is my mistake then. I usually assume many of these are words for the same thing which I think of as universal basic income. I think we will see slight improvements from non universal things as we always have with social safety nets but we will see incredible things with a universal one as it changes the whole mindset of people on what they can do.

I worry about these pilot studies, because they don’t show the large-scale effects on a nation’s economy.

Simply put: careful of drawing conclusions about UBI from a study on BI

I’m in fovour of ubi and inthino we have no choice but to implement it in some way, but let’s not forget that covid payments led to huge inflation worldwide. Its led to a cost of living crisis.

Was it payments that caused it, or was it greed? Because inflation and shrinkflation happened at the same time as record profits for companies. It’s a popular talking point to blame cash payments for inflation, but reality doesn’t reflect that if you take even a cursory look behind the mainstream narrative.

Supply and demand were both affected. Yes, there was profiteering too. Its complex. However, creating money, which we did, meant a larger demand, which led to inflation. It was worse for some things, especially of supply and bottlenecks were a problem.

“Be careful about these pilot studies on vaccines, they don’t show large scale effects on a nation’s resistance”.

What do you expect to happen? There’s a large-scale trial the size of a country from which to draw conclusions from?
