An Orange County woman filed a federal lawsuit Monday against an Anaheim Police Department officer, alleging that he raped her after seeing her at an In-N-Out Burger and getting her name by running her license plate number.
The woman, who is referred to as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, sued former Officer Carlos Romero, the city of Anaheim and 10 members of the police department, alleging sexual battery and civil rights violations, among other claims.
The headline implies something out of a horror movie, like he followed her home, pulled her over under false pretenses, and raped her.
But in reality this is closer to ‘fwb crossed his partner’s sexual boundaries (after having demonstrated multiple times that he does not respect boundaries)’:
Assuming her account is 100% accurate, he ran her plates (creepy as fuck, boundary break #1) to find her on Facebook after they made smiling eye contact with each other, then when he contacted her and admitted that’s how he found her, he asked for her phone number and she gave it to him (???). They started texting regularly.
Over the next few months, he came over to her place several times while on duty, and they made out (at least she says they only kissed, but almost definitely more, given the next part) during those visits.
Then one day, he asks to come over and she says she’s not up to it, but he comes over anyway (boundary break #2). They make out, he goes down on her, he fingers her, and he has his penis inside her for at least a moment (the way she worded it doesn’t sound like there was full on humping happening). She claims the first two were consensual and the last two weren’t.
Headline is ridiculously sensationalized. Is it really too boring to describe the actual scenario? Guess that won’t get the same number of clicks…
Tying the name of the fast food joint to the crime, in this case, is the low hanging fruit of dark humor.
