A Disney Cruise Line ship rescued four people from a sinking catamaran in Bermuda on Sunday.
The 50-foot catamaran, called the Serenity, was about 230 miles off the coast of Bermuda when a gasket failure in the escape hatch caused the vessel to begin taking on water.
Prior to rescue, Disney was able to determine that all four people had already signed up for free Disney + trials and thus had already signed arbitration agreements.
Disney plans to later invoice the rescuees for their short term accommodations on the Lifeboat Disney Treasure.
Indentured servitude. They now work on the ship.
Part of the crew, part of the ship…
By being rescued they all implicitly agreed to reimburse Disney the entire cost of the cruise.
Because of the implication…
I mean, if they didn’t do that, everyone would sink their boats to get a free disney cruise!
Then they were pulled on board, the survivors thought they’d died and landed in hell
I’d have jumped back into the ocean.
Despite the usual snarkiness towards post-capiralistim, these examples of good sea- and airmanship always bolster my faith in humanity.
It’s a legal requirement of SOLAS. They would be in the shit if they didn’t, and the people later died. As the cruise ship has AIS, there would be proof that they were the closest vessel.
The kids on the catamaran were reported to celebrate their incredibly boring vacation suddenly getting much better. /j
