Part of this is based on a myth that I heard a lot growing up. So I will clarify:
A frog in warming water will try to escape by any means necessary. It is aware that it is going to die. The experiment where “A frog placed in boiling water will jump out, a frog placed in lukewarm water that is raised to a boil will sit and die” is all misinformation. The experiment the idea is based on was to find the temperature that frogs die at, and all the frogs were pithed- effectively had their brains turned to goo.
Also, according to a Harvard Biology professor, Douglas Melton, the other part of the saying is also false. If you place a frog in boiling water, it won’t jump out, it’ll die.
