The Fediverse is quite varied, and often the platforms don’t all talk to each other well/at all because they’re doing different things.

To explain in relation to the alternatives to big media:

Twitter-like - microblogging and following users/hashtags: Mastodon, Misskey etc, Pleroma, etc, etc

Reddit-like - threaded conversation and content aggregation, following communities: Lemmy, mbin (kbin died), PieFed

Youtube-like - video content: PeerTube (or Loops for Tiktok-style short videos)

    Instagram-like - sharing photos: Pixelfed

Facebook-like - social media: Friendica (also Diaspora which is like Google+)

Goodreads-like - tracking read books and sharing reviews: Bookwyrm

And more: Funkwhale, Hubzilla, Jitsi, WriteFreely, etc

    This is it.

Lol nah but for reals, checkout mastodon for more content. Also, peer tube is sick af. But as some one who was there for the early days of cl, then fark, then digg, then reddit, now Lemmy, it’s early days. Be the content you want to see, cus it’s very early still.

It depends what format you want. If you want microblogging (Twitter-like) then check out Mastodon or similar

Lemmy is great, PieFed is similarly great

If it feels inactive here on lemmy, you might want to change your settings. I switch in this order if it feels stale on hot:

    ▪︎hot ▪︎top 6 hours ▪︎scaled ▪︎active

Active is the default, which you can change, and it seems the least active. If you’re really brave, try new.
