You might have misunderstood what I meant by “clean up before the PR.” None of the temp commits should end up in the main branch, where people would be bisecting.

Line the other commenter said, there’s nothing wrong with committing temp/untested code to a feature branch as long as you clean it up before the PR.

Can’t recommend this enough. I found a lightly used steelcase leap v1 on Craigslist for $120 (one owner). It was the same price as what I paid for a new EZBoy office chair from Costco, but the EZBoy started falling apart after less than a year. This Steelcase is over 15 years old and it looks and feels better than the other chair did when it was new. My back pain also went away when I got it, but I got a new mattress around the same time so it was probably a combination of the two… I do sit at my desk for 10+ hours a day, though.

There are other similar chairs (eg. Herman Miller Aeron), and while I hate to recommend reddit, I haven’t found a better source for info on second hand high-end office chairs. If you’re considering a new office chair and suffer from back pain (sorry OP, I know you aren’t looking for a new chair), consider a higher-end used chair.

Maybe playing devil’s advocate here, but if it was the ambulance’s fault then the ambulance company’s insurance should be paying for all of the medical bills, including the ambulance ride. And the bill for the ambulance ride pays the EMS workers salaries and the vehicle maintenance.

I write C++ professionally. Saying it’s a skill issue doesn’t solve the problem. If a dev with 15+ years of experience still isn’t writing memory-safe C++ (ie. some of the people I work with), they’re not going to learn now.

And if you’re a project manager and you choose to use C++ because your team says they like the challenge then you should be fired.

Of course none of this applies to hobby projects…

It’s a dig at people who don’t want to switch to memory-safe languages like rust.

It’s not necessary in most cases, but it has advantages. Namely, it’s easier to work with and melts at lower temperatures (less risk of damaging components and burning yourself). Also, while lead has its risks, they’re easy enough to mitigate.
