  • I’ve done the same thing. Was already living off grid when I was surprise unemployed last year. Made it about 3 months with no outside input, but eventually got sick from previous medical issues, so had to file for unemployment so I could have enough money to see a doctor.

A year later I’m now back in regular society with a regular job, trying to save up and start over.

I’ve learned that I can be prepared physically to go months on my own. But mentally is a different game altogether. Most of the prepper types would likely struggle without a support group. Being by yourself for long periods of time is FAR harder than most people think (myself included). The first few weeks are pretty easy, but it gets significantly harder every day.

  • Did you bother to look into it at all? What you are asking doesn’t even make sense from a design standpoint.

Nobody asked for a car you can print.

The way they are building their electric truck is the smartest way. Using available, off-the-shelf parts that have proven reliability. Nobody is going to be using CAD to create custom parts. Reinventing the wheel is precisely the problem and Edison Motors is working to avoid those mistakes.

Also, they are taking design input/feedback at the consumer level right now, BEFORE they have a ‘completed’ product to purchase. This is as close to open source as you can get in my opinion.

You could literally buy the same parts out of a warehouse and build a logging truck yourself if you wanted to.

Or you can sit on the internet and complain without having any idea what you’re talking about.

  • I’d have some sympathy if it weren’t for how far you need to go to get a license suspended in the first place.

All you have to do is talk back to a small town cop.

Once they decide to punish you, there’s nothing to be done. They can sit a block from your house and pull you over every single day and write a bullshit speeding ticket. The same cop wrote me up at least a dozen times. Admittedly I was speeding the first time, and possibly some of the others, but I was always with the flow of traffic and close to the limit. He would just write up whatever he wanted.

The most annoying part was when my father borrowed my car one morning and got pulled over instead. He was mad at me for it, because me pissing off the cops got him pulled over even though he never goes above the limit.

And if you live in a small town, there is no public transportation, there is no taxi service. If you don’t drive you have to walk or ride a bike. And all of the work available is many miles away, because everything is when you get rural.

Although I don’t disagree with your comment about the number of bad drivers, I just think this article lacks enough details to come to your conclusion.
