CileTheSane@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•New Zealand MPs who performed haka in parliament given unprecedented punishmentEnglish5·4 days agoThis is akin to randomly bellowing out the national anthem in the middle of a voting session but with more bite. I’d expect somebody doing that to be sanctioned too.
With the harshest punishment ever given within their government?
CileTheSane@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•New Zealand MPs who performed haka in parliament given unprecedented punishmentEnglish9·4 days agoThe haka happened last November. They haven’t been punished until now. You’d think if it was that severe they wouldn’t wait 5 months to punish them for it.

“It doesn’t matter how strict the punishment is, only criminals will be punished” only works if only criminals are punished. There’s plenty of stories of accounts being banned when no rules were broken.
CileTheSane@lemmy.cato Games@lemmy.world•Nintendo reserves the right to brick your console following "unauthorised use", in bid to prevent piracyEnglish1·9 days agoRight, children are known for being well behaved and following the rules…
I remember as a child playing 2 player Tetris on the original Gameboy, which required a cable connecting the two devices. I figured out if I watched my opponent’s height indicator on my screen and saw it drop suddenly I could unplug the cable from my device and not get sent the extra lines. It was a cheat and an exploit that I stumbled upon because I was curious what would happen. That “I wonder what would happen” attitude can now apparently cause Nintendo to purposely brick the device.
And that is why there is no such thing as an ethical billionaire.
It is possible to spend hundreds of millions of dollars on a yacht
A massive waste of resources and damaging to the planet. Something a sociopath would acquire.
billions on space travel
Cool. Let governments do that then. We don’t need to corporatize space.
Infinite Growth is good for board members and shareholders.
Infinite growth in a finite system is cancer. It kills the host every time
Growing the hoard can be it’s own game similar to idle games or gatcha games.
When the horde you’re growing is resources other people need to survive you can go fuck yourself. Go play a gatcha game instead.
If I had a billion dollars I wouldn’t work another fucking day in my life.
Billionaires have more money than they could ever spend, and spend so much time and effort trying to increase the size of the hoard and make sure they don’t have to pay an extra fraction of it in taxes. It’s a sickness.
You don’t become a billionaire without being mentally ill, and for some reason we think the mentally ill are the most fit to run corporations.

It’s not allowed at all in board games. There’s a known issue that someone could completly copy the mechanics of a board game, and as long as they don’t copy the art or the exact text of the rulebook there is no legal means to stop it.
Boardgamers are aware of this, and agree that it is better for development of future games than if someone could own the idea of “rolling a dice”, so if knockoffs do come around they tend to quickly get called out and not purchased.
I don’t know how videogames managed to get different rules.
You mean the one group who understands science and the other group that refuses to understand science and insists they know better than the experts and the studies that have been done?
I don’t think there’s any common ground for those 2 groups.
CileTheSane@lemmy.cato Funny@sh.itjust.works•William Shatner says Mark Carney should offer to make the U.S. the 11th province3·11 days agoThey couldn’t handle our freedom
What does that mean?
Freedom of speech? People are being detained, arrested, and deported because they said things on their phones that are critical of the president.
Freedom of religion? People are being forced by law to follow the rules of “Christianity”.
Freedom of association? Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is being outlawed. Better not associate with minorities or “Libs” or you risk retribution.
Freedom to Travel? If you think being freely traveled to El Salvador counts…
Freedom of privacy? People are being harassed in bathrooms to “prove” their gender (how the hell do you do that?)
Life? People are being denied necessary life saving medical treatment due to that lack of Freedom from Religion we talked about earlier.
Liberty? People are being detained and deported without due process
Persuit of Happiness? LGBTQ people having their protections stripped away and need to hide who they are.
Other than the “freedom” to have people around you openly carrying deadly weaponry while shopping at a grocery store, what freedoms do Americans have that Canadians lack?
The was one where her hand was “stuck” in the drain of a sink. At some point she removes her hand from the sink to remove her shirt, then puts it back in the sink.
I’m starting to think the goal is not to emulate realism…

Sounds reasonable, but you wouldn’t call it a “logic puzzle”.
It’s not a puzzle. It’s just wrong.
“Which of the following is a mammal:
A) rock
B) time
C) verb
D) Enui”Is not a puzzle.
You must be in the wrong thread. The meme presented does not say “a female shark does like male sharks in her aquarium and kills them.” It says “a male shark kept bothering a female shark so she killed him.”
The fact that you seem to think “harassing women when they aren’t interested” is an intrinsic part of being male is very telling…
Meanwhile Incels constantly complain that “you can’t joke about anything”…
Like what do we expect young impressionable boys to do?
Not bump into women repeatedly? What behaviour are you trying to defend here that is being attacked?
