Imagine going to school for years and years. You have your doctorate. You’re in the field for 10 years. You work in field that is 93% male. You find a new job, good pay and reputable. The boss on the daily explains things to you. Some things that are just basic science and not even directly applicable to your work. No other new hires get these interesting and informative chats but what a coincidence, all the other new hires are men. I never called it “mansplaining,” it’s just sexism. One cute word doesn’t capture the malice that is often behind it and makes men who view themselves as harmless defensive. Of course there is pointing out systemic sexism that is ingrained in natural behavior but its important to note the difference in a simple conversation and singling out a woman to explain something while assuming she doesn’t have anything in that pretty little head of hers. Personally hence, I’ve noticed it used most often when the woman you’re targeting is smarter than you and this is a subtle power play to remind her of her place.

44·28 days agoThat’s all it’s about. Nyc has been engaging in shady practices for a while. It’s almost like an unregulated tax on the middle class. If you can afford a car, but have to use street parking, you’re going to get tickets. Even if you’ve done nothing wrong, those meter maids have their quotas to fill. They’re getting greedier. Now that public roads are tolled the next natural escalation seems to be fining ebikes…
Next you’ll pay a few dollars to walk every few blocks.
11·1 month agoSo I have a small business where we print our down designs. We almost got one of these, but canceled. I can’t justify the price for what I can use it for. We were going to get it to print onto containers but printing onto vinyl and using a cutting machine would be cheaper than the UV ink and wouldn’t make a noticeable difference for our use. Also printing on to things one at a time is just going to be so slow. I hand paint onto the 3D prints using acrylics and then use a thin layer of UV resin to all an enamel like finish. Its pretty quick to line up a bunch of prints and hand stroke the colors on one at a time with a brush. Its also cheaper because that ink is still a whopping $300 a refill i think. For personal use, it might be warranted. It seems so cool and I really want one, but even with it being so affordable for what it is, I can’t justify the price.
I think hearth magic doesn’t work that way. When you live somewhere and set up a presence, it becomes your domain. A warrant doesn’t take that away from you. You need permission to travel safely into someone’s domain.

I had a dream about my best friend. They had been treating me so badly, but I wasn’t willing to see it. The dream laid it out in a way that was obvious. Once I saw the truth, I couldn’t unsee it. Our friendship ended within the year despite me trying to work on it and ask them to be kinder.
That was my escape plan from the US. Now what?

22·2 months agoBots. I swear its all bots reposting content from 10 years ago that people might not have seen yet or rewording old posts/comments. Check the account history and posts if something seems suspicious. Usually those people have lived all over the place, are different genders and have lives different time lines… Unless reddit is now all whovians… im calling bots
