I’m pretty sure they just charge the local currency equivalent in BTC at the time of purchase.

Do you have a source for that? I’ve seen local businesses like pizza shops and such accept btc.
Edit: the majority of crypto transactions are likely between exchanges, miners, and exchange customers. An example is the Blackrock BTC ETF buys and sells btc off an exchange in realtime in relation to the ETF purchases. I’m not saying no crime happens on the btc network but to claim 100% of transactions are crime based is just false.
Isn’t USD also linked to many of those? Gangs launder physical cash through businesses, ransomware can ask for credit cards or bank accounts, terrorists may take USD as it can be spent nearly anywhere.
Even if you have to look at it first, once on it you can go by feel where as i find i struggle to do the same on a fully touch control.
Haptic feedback like knob clicks or button presses are much easier to use without taking eyes off the road as often.
The road should have been designed to make this incident nearly impossible. Something as simple and relatively cheap as bollards could have prevented this.

I’m sure if they had reliable transit, they wouldn’t think twice about ditching the loud honking. And what about residents that don’t use Waymo, should they be expected to tolerate it?
Did the residents really have informed consent? Were the residents told there was a risk of being dragged under the cars when they agreed for these vehicles? Or how about the people with apartments near the honking parking lots, do they want that happening every night?
I don’t think missing out this fact is all that relevant to the overall point he was trying to make here. These companies are claiming this technology will be safe and it clearly isn’t. A safety driver’s reaction time is also likely less than a regular driver’s as they may not be as connected with the vehicle through the steering wheel and pedals while in self driving mode. The tech in the car may have also influenced the safety driver’s judgement about the situation.
I think Jason said it well in the video, “there’s no money to be made in making the streets safer, so the only solution to the dangers caused by the old cars has to be buying new cars.”
But a handful of people won’t get rich off nationalized rail or municipal transit. A handful of people will get rich by private solutions like self driving cars.
If you have to walk regularly you should write to your local politicians and city council that your needs are not being met safely.
I think the intent with this centered walkway is to provide somewhere that people can push their cart to their trunk without being in a car lane of the lot. This works best if they back into the spot. Some people back into a more normal set of spots then have less space at their trunk if someone pulls in behind them. These can be especially useful near stores that sell larger items as the customers would need more space to load.
Its about long term effort investment. The game really gets fun as you start making lots of profits, upgrading tools, and automating the farm, although it can be tiring. There is also probably over 1000 ways to play. Some focus on mining, some more on social, some rarely leave the farm.
I can usually play it for about and in game year then have to put it down. Then I have a hard time picking it back up cause im worried ill mess up my planting plans even though my character is already fairly rich.
Get out of the fast lane on a road that only has 1 lane in each direction? Yes i mean drivers using an oncoming lane to pass instead of waiting a few minutes for the passing lanes that come every couple of kilometers.
Once the transit is built you still need to provide some incentive to make people switch. People use bus routes as an excuse to not waste tax money on transit because they see it as ineffective. This is partially because most bus routes are significantly less convenient and slower than driving.
When I call the cops to report dangerous driving, half the time the dispatch doesn’t even seem to care, “oh only going 30 over? Is that about the flow of traffic? Well it isn’t illegal to pass on the double yellow even if it was kind of tight. If you’re backing up traffic by doing the limit you could probably speed up a bit to make it safer”.
If the transit is both free and faster than driving, there would defintely be a change, especially if driving costs starting increasing like parking fees or congestion pricing after the transit is built.
People care about their time and their money, you make a change that can save people both and many will change their habits. Sure you might not get the coal rolling truck drivers onto a train but you could get average commuters to change with a few incentives.
EPA and revitalize auto industry is obviously a conflict of interest.
