  • Because it’s accepted all over the internet and is the only way to pay on many websites.

It’s also a way to send money to friends, just like venmo and such. And just like venmo and such, has very few consumer protections or regulation.

The US doesn’t have a national or government system to freely send payments to other people - and no one uses checks anymore - so we all have to pick one of these equally awful private companies to use to send money and hope we don’t get scammed or have our account frozen and our money seized.

  • And then there are people like me, who aren’t opposed to paying for access in theory, but will never be okay with having the videos I watch be tied to an account. It’s inconvenient and I don’t trust Google with my watch history, even when the option is turned off.

Also I wouldn’t pay until: Youtube stops showing ads for hate groups; stops its manipulative recommendations and push towards right-leaning and extremist content; stops manipulating creators to all make the same kind of video in order to please the algorithm; removes hate content and extremist content; stops auto-flagging and removing fair-use content.

Nonono. To hell with that phone and that company. i bought one and it just now got delivered, three years later.

It’s underpowered and a broken mess. And the keyboard isn’t the best, which is insane for a phone whose whole selling point is the keyboard. I was expecting it to be on par with my old Sidekick phones. Nope. So disappointing.

  • Exactly. Google had the existing userbase of – and free advertising to – every single person who visited google.com. All it took was a little banner saying “Get Chrome! It’s free and better!”

That, combined with having billions of dollars to throw at making Chrome successful, of course they became the #1 browser.

The Firefox team has never had the funding they really need to compete with Chrome. I see the AI and ad push to be a desperate attempt at securing enough funding to stay relevant. It’s really sad to see.

As long as Firefox lets me turn off any unwanted ad or AI integration, I will keep using them, but damn I hope they secure some funding and get their shit together before they lose the majority of their userbase.
