implementation of my proposal would still require a minor revolution as the current system will not allow to elect a legislator that will pass these points:

1. Designate any newspaper, TV/YouTube/telegram channel, blog, Instagram account, etc with more than a 100k monthly views/impressions/followers/whatever as a public faced media.
2. Make the only allowed ownership form of these media outlets something like worker cooperatives.
3. Somewhat limit the ownership stakes so that no single member of this cooperative can make all the decisions.
4. The cooperative should have public financial records so the anyone can see where the revenue comes from.

This still does not protect against a billionaire buying out everyone in the cooperative through donations via multiple shell companies, but it is an improvement. What I like is that a large media holding can still exist under this scheme, but any corruption would be somewhat apparent.

what you are proposing is basically censorship, and state censorship is much easier to consolidate than the current billionaire-based one

you guys are hilarious, I used to live somewhere where this system exists and was designed with all these right reasons and now a social media post that conflicts with the state’s viewpoint will land you a 10 year sentence.

my point is regulation is not a solution and I don’t see any way to overcome this under capitalism. the only thing that might work is some kind of worker-operated cooperative like what the guys at 404 media are doing.

who do you expect is the person deciding what reporting is free and fair? is there a governmental regulatory body, created with the purpose of determining if the reporting was factual? shouldn’t the efficiency of this process be improved via pre-approving any media by this regulator to avoid fines?

A few months ago I decided to upgrade my home server. I estimated that 4 2TB nvme SSDs will cost about 350 eur and ordered a nice new ARM box with 64GB RAM and a PCIe thing to split an x8 slot to 4 M.2s.

The box has arrived last week so I went to order the nvmes and it turned out that the cheapest 2TB SSD is 200 eur now. For the price of one! Now I don’t have the disks and the past few days I’ve been restless and thinking whether I should just eat the cost now or wait for the prices to fall back. Recent NVIDIA keynotes talk about increasing context size or whatever so it looks like the cost will only rise in the near future.

Fuck NVIDIA and fuck everyone who participates in the latest hype cycle.

That’s strange - vanilla gnome should start in overview mode and dash is populated with gnome apps by default. Aside from that, there’s a button in the upper left corner that goes into overview if you press it.

Maybe your install did get corrupted, because literally my grandma could figure it out. On the other hand, most mainstream distros ship with dash to dock and discoverability must be the reason.

Well, dummy plugs are also kinda useful on windows - can’t seamlessly switch to client’s resolution without setting up the resolution profiles first, and that requires a device to apply the profiles to.

Also, you can create virtual displays fairly easy on Xorg, but yes, the entire sunshine setup is infinitely easier on windows.

I distinctly remember seeing sprites about 10 years ago, where the enemies were eco protesters. The biters were protesters with signs, the spitters were protesters with Molotov cocktails, the nests were tent encampments.

if you already have an esim on the phone it will not be wiped during installation - esims reside on a completely separate chip.

all “difficult to set up” information is exactly about that - setting up, that, in any case, is just about enabling specific google services that you can disable afterwards.

my phone has about 5 esims installed, I regularly wipe my phone, they are unaffected.

I always wondered why anyone would choose to use that instead of Signal and GrapheneOS. I mean, removing cameras and microphones is a great tactic, but why use some shady software instead of something that was proven to work many times? Even if that service was authentic, how long would it take for law enforcement to learn about it, seize the servers and collect metadata? haha, none at all! I’ve spent like 6 months trying to boot normal NixOS instead of mobile-nixos, got it booting last week, almost nothing works, currently I’m trying to build a newer kernel and maybe fix sound.

I quite like the boot chain that I achieved (bootloader -> tianocore EDK II UEFI from Renegade Project -> normal systemd-boot) and I also installed the whole thing via USB by mounting disks directly.

On Mobian I think at least one camera did work but was purple all over, never actually tested the hardware on android.

All mobile distributions ship without kernel modules that I need, compiling manually on every update is not really sustainable, this is the reason why my setup is so convoluted.

Yes, I mean the 2018 era SDM845 bunch of phones. They mostly work. While postmarketOS is the community that made linux on phones possible, it is not the only thing that you can run on these, there is actual choice. I personally liked Mobian very much.

Making linux phones more widely adopted will require wider community interest and halium is just not the way forward.
