LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Technology@lemmy.world•Trump calls US program helping boost internet access 'racist'English4·21 days agoHe knows what we say it means, but he is a eugenicist and believes that white people are biologically superior. He co-opts our language because it fuels a media cycle. The fascists love when he co-opts our language. Its all games of confusion and misdirection and redefinement.
LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Technology@lemmy.world•Trump calls US program helping boost internet access 'racist'English17·21 days agoThey openly deride empathy itself. They only use this language to fuel the media cycle and keep their rabid indoctrinated followers occupied. Its all misdirection. They are hellbent on carrying out their eugenicist fantasies and inevitably they will try to do so.
LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Technology@lemmy.world•Trump calls US program helping boost internet access 'racist'English471·21 days agoI wonder how far away we are from bans on hiring racial minorities, women and queer people. Some of the first acts against minorities the Nazis carried out were bans on working for the government and bans on working in education. Eventually the Trumpists will get to that point. Fascists are neither creative nor original. We know what they want and we know what they’re going to do, it’s all a matter of timing now.

I am also definitely of the opinion that there are lots of people who shouldn’t be driving.
LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla Full-Self Driving Veers Off Road, Hits Tree, and Flips Car for No Obvious Reason (No Serious Injuries, but Scary)English22·24 days agoHe really hasn’t. He purchased companies that were already sitting on profitable ideas. He is not an engineer. He is not a scientist. He has no training in any design discipline. He takes credit for the ideas of people he pays. He takes credit for the previous achievements of companies he’s purchased.
What is it going to fucking take for people to finally actually see the grifter for what he is? He’s never had a single good fucking r&d idea in his life 🙃 he has wasted billions of dollars researching and developing absolutely useless ideas that have benefited literally no one and have not made him any money. It is absolutely incredible how powerful his mythos is, that people still believe him to be or have been some kind of engineer or something. He’s a fucking racist nepo baby. He’s never done a single useful thing in his life. He wasn’t the sole individual involved in creating PayPal (and was entirely unrelated in turning it into the successful business it became), he didnt found tesla nor is he responsible for any of the technological developments it made (except for forcing his shitty charger design that notoriously breaks down and charges at half the speed that competitors do), he did not found SpaceX and by all metrics involved has been loathed by everyone at the company for the past decade for continuously committing workers rights violations and fostering a racist sexist and ableist work environment. The man has done nothing but waste people’s time stoking his ego and sexually abusing a slew of employees for the past 2 and a half decades.
LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla Full-Self Driving Veers Off Road, Hits Tree, and Flips Car for No Obvious Reason (No Serious Injuries, but Scary)English226·24 days agoI am never getting into a self driving car. I don’t understand why we are investing money into this technology when people can already drive cars on their own, and we should be moving towards robust public transportation systems anyway. A waste of time and resources to… what exactly? Stare at your phone for a few extra minutes a day? Work from home and every city having robust electric transit systems is what the future is supposed to be.

Phones are more like data harvesting engines than devices of utility. It’s gotten so much worse over the past 5 years. I mean it was never good but it’s making the internet nearly unusable if you want any kind of privacy.

Have been looking for this exact kind of thing ever since I abandoned Google maps. I contributed to Google maps for years. It’ll be nice to contribute to something I believe in instead.
LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto Free and Open Source Software@beehaw.org•Lets contribute to OpenStreetMaps!English11·1 month agoI think there’s limitations to that. I also think ideally we should cut Google out our work chain anyways, and depending on data from there makes that functionally impossible. Stuff on maps changes, if we’re scraping from Google maps now we’re just gonna have to continue doing that. Instead we should normalize our own community work chains to build our own dataset.

I give it a year before there’s no seperate remote streaming package and the only remaining one is >10$. The main appeal of Plex was not paying. It’s used by pirates. The goal is content for free. It’s no longer free. I don’t care at all if random people can use my Plex server. If they are unwilling to adapt to a new platform, then I guess they’ll resubscribe to Netflix. Most of them never unsubscribed from Netflix to begin with.
This was the end for me. Used Plex for almost a decade. I’m off to Jellyfin. It’s actually almost no change whatsoever to integrate it into my home setup.

It would make a massive difference for Canadians. Probably greatly help us over the recession. But, I definitely have questions about what it would look like.
That all being said, it’s probably bad optics for Carney right now. It’s probably in his interest to delay this until after the election.

I think it’s also likely that some of what they’ve been talking about has been in development for a while and that China is choosing now to make big reveals about them.
LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto World News@lemmy.world•China pivots from U.S. to Canada for more oil as trade war worsensEnglish82·2 months agoHow can my car data, which in all connected vehicles from anywhere is already available and being sold online to whoever wants it, prove a security risk to Canada? How can they car censor me? And why would they want to? We all buy their shit constantly. You’re living in a house that is, in all likelihood, half Chinese produced products. They want to sell their cars to us because they can undercut all the regional competition and make massive profits in our market.
China already provides at least half of the products we use in day to day life. If they wanted to strong arm us into joining their country, or whatever you mean by sovereignty, they could do so tomorrow by cutting us off. Significant sectors of our economy would collapse. I don’t see why this would benefit them though. They don’t have to turn themselves into an international pariah to get all our resources. We trade them willingly.
A far greater threat to our sovereignty is the neo nazi militarized dictatorship state to our south. We are going to have to do business with China. We are in a significantly worse position without them, and the lives of our citizens are drastically affected in that scenario. I don’t at all buy that China is attempting to inject itself in Canadian society to censor talk about Tiananmen square or the ethnic cleansing of the Uyghurs. Whether we talk about those things or not changes nothing. Canada isn’t prepping to invade China over human rights grievances or something.
In any case, EU and other East Asian markets do not have the EVs we are looking for. China is the world’s leader in EV markets. Nearly every top EV company globally is Chinese. EU is buying Chinese EVs. Pretty much everywhere else is also buying them. Because the alternatives are invest in massive public transportation infrastructure (all for this) or develop a decades’ worth of technology that China has and everyone else doesn’t. The answer in that situation is pretty easy for most governments to make.
Canada is nowhere close to viable nationwide public transportation. If we started today, we could have it in maybe a decade. It’s not happening at all right now. I happen to live in an area with none whatsoever. Local busses are twice a day kind of deal. If you have a job you need a car or to live within walking distance of your work. So I’m going to need a car for the foreseeable future. The car I can afford is a used gas engine car. Barring Chinese EV introduction to Canadian markets, I will be driving a gasoline car for at least another decade or 2. I can’t afford to save up the kind of money needed to afford a new EV at the costs regional dealers are charging for them. It just won’t happen. I also can’t loan or lease because I’m not an idiot. So I’m stuck with gas until Chinese EVs are brought in or until another international manufacturer becomes competitive with them, which due to the technology divide, could be quite a while.
For all those reasons and more, yes I’d be absolutely delighted to hear that Chinese EVs were coming to Canada.
LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zoneto World News@lemmy.world•China pivots from U.S. to Canada for more oil as trade war worsensEnglish105·2 months agoCan we actually get the 10 thousand dollar EVs please
They can spy on me all they want i have no fucking clue what i do that could possibly be beneficial to Chinese intelligence that they can’t already readily find on the internet. We post everything. All the major American and Canadian corporations are already stealing and selling our data en mass. Their cars do too actually. Japanese cars as well. Any device with any connection to the internet does. Unless you’re buying something explicitly opposed to that. And even then they still do half the time.
I’d like a cheap car that is efficient, long lasting, and well made please. Can we not also have a trade war with China. Let’s not do that. It’s not going to end well for America. I’d love to stop driving a gas car. I will almost certainly never be able to do so with American made vehicles. I’d love it if China flooded our auto market with EVs. Can we get a petition going lmao
It’s literally robbery. They’re legal thieves. They collect until you’re dead, and they sure as hell aren’t lifting a finger to keep you alive.
