I am not saying traffic feature is bad. I am criticizing the little control we have to not contribute to the statistics. Google is a monopoly and decisions are made by them with little control over our devices.

Traffic feature is cool and for it I would contribute, but just pointing out that google hasn’t done it in the best possible way to gather statistics. I wouldn’t use traffic feature from google for this one reason.

  • I dont know much about writing stories/poetry, but for publicity in fediverse (I assume you meant in fediverse too) here would be my response:

Lemmy is good but the main part of fediverse is the mastodon clients (twitter equivalent). Most of the users use a mastodon instance.

So posting to mastodon and lemmy seems like a good option. Although mastodon will limit post text length. Better to repost or boost it from lemmy to mastodon.

Goes to show how data from device always seems to contribute to some statistics.

Not that it’s always bad but problem today is that control isn’t with us to opt out completely.

Openstreetmaps anyone? I use organic maps most of the time to use openstreetmap data. Love the maps!

  • Seems like a confirmation bias

There are lot of resource and effort put in place for crimes against regular people. Rescue operations and holding justice has come a long way, although it’s not perfect. They dont appear in news often because its just regular people.

Because of attention of media and since it is a significant person who died, there is significant attention give from law enforcement to this case.

The differnce is just attention and not about resource. We saw more update of this particular situation from media which may have caused a bias of thinking “resources and efforts are little for regular people”.

  • Openness of linux would be lost

Although device drivers are proprietary, linux does its best to limit such proprietry stuff. But in case of android, Google pretty much has a monopoly because a standard build of android isnt enough for use.

I hate that the spirit of openness is shot on the foot just because of the need of commercialization. I would prefer linux than android.
