I’ve had a fantasy since I was young that I would live to see some start to building colonies on the moon or Mars. The older I get and realize how vast the distances are between the earth, the moon, Mars and anything else, I’ve realized that I don’t think we’ll ever really leave earth in anything more than to go into orbit around earth. People are very tied to the environment that we formed in and taking that with us to another planet will be prohibitively expensive and refreshing supplies to support that can largely only be done on earth.

Now I believe people won’t make any permanent settlement outside of earth in my lifetime or ever.

I usually see that on subreddits with LGBT focused content.

The only thing I can guess is their brains have been fried by dramatized TV shows and movies where plot gives all the relevant information to explain all inconsistencies for a satisfying ending. Sometimes you’re just a person in a cave looking at shadows, trying to find an explanation for everything with the little information you can gather in your life is a waste.

There was a ton of stupid conspiracy theories around the whole clones sheep thing back then. I think looking back on that time period (like two decades ago, not one) the dumb conspiracies were forgotten as they didn’t lead to anything outside of fearmongering.

Same for the moon landing, there are still conspiracies that it was all faked.

Blocking ads is just another layer of defense in your security stack. I want to say it’s like locking your front door, but not using an ad blocker is worse than just having your front door unlocked.

I think it’s a pixel thing, but I get around this by going into the app background thing then press “select” so the phone can treat the screen as an image with text and just list out the text without any website or browser shenanigans interfering.

Yea a lot of the niche communities haven’t and probably won’t migrate to these smaller sites like Lemmy and Mastodon. Don’t know how to solve the issue either.

Personally I’ve just stopped using the internet for checking on my niche hobbies. A good number of Reddit clones have been trying to populate communities with bots to just post links but without any discourse, it’s the same effect as just googling “topic” and filtering for links from this week.
