Wow, that’s a bummer :-/ For me it’s 15-20 min by car assuming a few minutes walk to where I’ve parked. 25 min by bike (20 min by road but I take a safer ‘scenic route’) and about 40 min by bus and about 10 minutes of that is walking to/from the bus stop. And the bus fare gets capped at 8 trips per week so every trip thereafter is free meaning if you commute to work every day, Friday and all weekend will be unlimited free trips.

One of my carless kin! There are dozens of us!! The number of times people have assumed I can’t go somewhere “because it’s raining” and I’m just like, I have a jacket and an umbrella! But what if you’re biking?? Um, I have a jacket, a backpack cover and leggings and sometimes… if I’m just heading home to a hot shower and a change of clothes, I just get soaking wet! Like absolutely sodden! NBD! And if I’m heading somewhere without the option of a change of clothes, I bus there and that leads to a whole other issue of “But that must take ssooo long!?!” Yeah sure, a bit longer, but I can relax, pop on some headphones, set google maps to tell me when I’m near my stop, watch/listen to something and let the driver worry about the driving!

So because you will be able to generate game assests easily without weeks of modelling and texturing etc games will be waaaay cheaper to buy right?… Right?…

Most concerts I’ve been to that have required travel outside of my home city have been 1000km away and I always fly. This has probably been about 10 times all up, 4 of which were festivals with multiple bands I wanted to see. I have yet to travel to another country for a concert but for a very few specific bands that’s not out of the question. There’s probably only a couple of bands that haven’t toured here yet that would actually be that tempting.

Crikey!? That sux :-/ I don’t recall ever encountering a road in any town or city where I’ve lived that didn’t have at least one footpath per road, and usually there’s one down each side of every single street until you get past the last house before hitting the countryside.

Find your local makerspace! You will be super useful to people and able to help them out with your woodworking and computer skills, you will learn new skills adjacent to those hobbies from others and you can bake some treats to take along that will win you instant fans! Also, makerspaces attract people of a wide range of ages and backgrounds that will share many of your interests! It’s a win-win-win!

No actor/actress should have their pool of potential roles made vanishingly small because of a thing they can’t change, the colour of their skin! And then on top of there being very few roles for people of colour in western pop culture based on your criteria, the very few roles they COULD take are often ALSO given to white actors/actresses in bizarre acts of whitewashing idiocy! It’s infuriating! Talent, passion, skill, training, these should be the kinds of factors involved when choosing who gets cast for what role, not where you fall on the colour wheel! It’s just crazy to me that it’s even a consideration at all and in future people will look back and be incredulous that it ever was!? At least I hope that will be the case, as we are making slow progress in that direction.

I know :-p Spherical cow in a vacuum :-) It highlights the difference in truck v car v bike, all else removed from the equation, and shows that bikes basically have (approaching) zero impact on roads built for cars/trucks. Another way to look at it is if you only had to engineer roads for bikes they could be a fraction of the cost AND last a lot longer! Sigh, dreams are free!

Someone posted this link below and you have the right idea (that bike = less damage = road lasts longer) but you’re ever so slightly off with you 2x estimation. Just a smidge out :-D

The road stress ratio of truck to car is 10,000 to 1.

To put it another way. This means that after 160,000 crossings, the bicycle causes as much damage as the car does when driving on the road only once.

A truck, ONE truck, ONE time, is this number of bike crossings (if I mathed it right??): 1,600,000,000?! What even is that number?? It’s in the billions!? I mean there might not be that many bike crossings before the heat death of the universe?! And that’s just ONE truck, ONCE!?

Conclusion: Roads would last till the ends of time if they were only utilised by bicycles! Even if you only built roads to last ONE year under heavy truck use, under heavy bike use this same road would last 1.6 billion years!? Is this even real?! Am I mathing wrong?!

You’re so right! When something is almost 80% of a thing, it’s more or less that thing now. It’s that thing, plus some other stuff but the focus has to be on the thing that is almost 80% of the issue. If we reduce car tyre derived microplastics by one quarter it would be the equivalent of completely eliminating ALL other sources of microplastics. The issue needs reframing badly!
