2·1 month agoIt was a hypothetical. If their product becomes unusable without them, I wouldn’t have considered their products particularly repairable. But I got my answer above, and I’m happy. Will consider a framework when my Thinkpad says goodnight.

Technology@lemmy.world•Papyrus scroll burnt to a crisp during Vesuvius eruption deciphered with help of AI | CNNEnglish
1·2 months agoYeah if I remember correctly, the villa where these scrolls were found housed stoic philosophers or something. It was also originally owned by Julius Caesars father in law.
I actually visited Herculaneum a couple of years ago. Pretty cool sight. You can see the charred wooden beams of this villa sticking out of the dirt cliff. When no one was looking I picked small a charred wooden bit off the ground. Probably shouldn’t have done that, but there were lots of these small pieces just lying there on the ground, and I couldn’t help myself.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI helps read papyrus scroll burnt to crisp during Vesuvius eruptionEnglish
7·2 months agoThat’s extremely disrespectful to the researchers who have built and trained the machine learning model. And the process of extracting useful data from a charred scroll. That’s a tremendous undertaking. AI is not just ChatGPT and LLMs.
Why can’t we discuss the Roman Empire in this thread?? Imagine the cool shit hidden in those scrolls
What is this post referencing? Why would anyone need to make up stuff about Stalin? He was an evil piece of shit
