My company just did the same thing. Just layed off 15% of staff because of some bad quarters but is now looking into mergers and acquisitions because they think/know the senile microphone abuser will let tech consolidation run wild.

zippo lighters
I’ve never had any luck with zippos, whenever I tried to use it it wouldn’t work and I had to refill it. I hear you have to use them often but I’m not a smoker or arsonist so will only use a lighter maybe once a month. Any tips or recommendations for lighters that you don’t have to use often but will last longer than a cheap disposable one?
What an uncreative and semi-racist insult. These people abuse and oppress women and gays, marry children, run an authoritarian theocracy and you choose to make fun of them for living in a sandy environment?
It’s the thin blue line flag , you’ll see it all over the US by right wingers who think police are the only thing keeping us from murdering each other.
Makes sense. You’d want to hold back on buying until the market becomes clearer.
This article goes over a bit of both if you trust npr more than some random socialist propagandist but The trends for both are nationwide. Police staffing has been going down since BLM became a thing and public respect and love for cops went down. This one doesn’t give years but it says 5% over the last couple years. The change is bigger in larger more liberal cities. Chicago is down 13% since 2018 , san francisco which inspired this meme is down 20% since 2017 while at the same time seeing a ~30% decrease in crime over the past year.
Crime is also down all over the country, home break ins have been steadily declining since 2018 when the police staffing “problem” started. Murders have also dropped 12% over the past year along with alot of other crimes
Not saying less cops = less crime, just debunking the classic thin blue line narrative of less cops = more crime
You could maybe argue that if the drop was only in small petty crime. Yeah a shopkeeper may stop reporting shoplifting after the 10th time the police don’t respond. That under reporting goes down as the crime gets more serious. Your probably going to report a home break in to the cops even if you know they won’t do anything since you’re going to need a police report for insurance, home break ins have been steadily declining since 2018 when the police staffing “problem” started. This seriousness holds very true for murders which have dropped 12% over the past year
That’s assuming the victims would be under reporting, if you’re saying the police departments, government etc. Are under reporting then that’s getting into conspiracy territory. Especially because we’re seeing this trend reported across the nation so the conspiracy would have to be massive.
Also if the government had the ability to do this why would they start now? This idea isn’t too complex so someone could have easily come up with it and started doing it a while ago. If that were the case we’d never see crime rates go up as the politicians would just under report every year and make it look like crime is going down. But we have seen reported crime go up, noticeably in 2022 , and instead of hiding that many politicians and police departments showcased it as a reason to Crack down on crime and increase there budgets.
Police staffing has been going down since black lives matter became a thing. They dont get the same unquestioned respect and love like they used too so no one wants to be a cop any more. This one doesn’t give years but it says 5% over the last couple years. The change is bigger in larger more liberal cities. Chicago is down 13% since 2018 , san francisco which inspired this meme is down 20% since 2017 and all the mayoral candidates are falling over themselves to say they’ll solve it even though crime is down.
If you let the sauce simmer for long enough, 4-5 hours, or pressure cook it the starches of the tomatoes will break down and you won’t need to add sugar. The acidity will also go down the longer it’s simmered too.
Seems a bit of an exaggeration to say everyone. The population at the time of the revolution was around 2.5 million. Of that maybe 500,000 were the land owning white male “patriots” that would support the revolution and of those maybe half read or were influenced by Thomas Payne so around 250,000. We tend to attach a lot of significance after the fact to the American revolution, and Adam’s, Payne etc. Since it spawned one of the greatest empires the world has ever known but at the time it was a relatively minor tax revolt.
this isn’t even a matter of the world in general was smaller back then, France at that time had a population of 28 million. Payne would go on to have less success in convincing everyone there on his ideas because the scale is just so much more massive. Same with modern day.
Yeah you can choose the instance your profile is on or where your browsing but you can’t choose what instance a post was made on. If I see a meme on lemmy and want to share it with a friend who doesn’t know about lemmy depending on how I get the link it could either be for the cached version on my instance or the “actual” link on the instance where it was posted. It seems the default behavior on the web ui for the share button is to do the cached version but depending what client you use this can be different.
It makes adoption harder if when people actually do try to spread posts the person on the other end is afraid to click it.
Brilliant except for:
America waits until Germany is about to fall over from sustained punching from France and Britain, then comes in and knocks it over the head with a barstool and pretends like it won the fight
Should be:
Germany starts wailing on France and Britain after Russia got knocked out, America made a bet on France and Britain winning and is afraid they might lose so joins in pulls Germany off them and helps to finish them off, then pretends like it won the fight.
Any exclusionary conformist society can look good on the surface if you ignore the people outside the dominant class. The 50s in America looks idyllic if you ignore black people, women who didnt want to be housewives, leftists etc. Same with barbie world, if you arent a hyper femme straight cis women you probably wouldn’t have a good time there. That was sort of the message of the movie too, if you don’t make your society open to different people or ways of life it will build resentment that can lead to the fall of the society
I fail to see how this crime fighting measure involves more cops, guns and racism so I don’t think you’ll be able to convince the “tough on crime” “pro life” GOP supreme court on this.
He’s just saying it’ll be great when there’s some management changes and you’ll get promoted to chief Jewish inspector … That is if you know German and aren’t Jewish yourself.
Revolutions by Mike Duncan. It’s a history podcast with each season about a revolution, American, French, South American etc. with a huge backlog
Already listened through once but now I put it on to go to sleep, cause it’s fine if I miss something now.
Yeah, and Vietnam should’ve worked on rebuilding there country after the war instead of taking out polpot.
Genocidal regimes are a threat to all humanity and need to be fought against, especially when it’s just a denouncement which costs nothing. It’s not like they’re sending billions to the area while the poor in their country go without food, like the u.s.
Can’t wait to see the media/israel try and label her an anti-semite.
It could just be for reducing churn and keeping the status quo. It’s a prisoners dilemma, if geico spends a million on advertising then they might gain some customers from say progressive. Progressive would then also also have to advertise to attract customers back so they will spend a million on advertising too, now both are spending a million to keep the status quo. If you take a step back and look at the big picture it’s basically everyday people paying higher premiums that go to the advertising company, celebrity etc.
The car insurance market is pretty static, there’s no opportunity to expand the market outside general population growth since everyone already has a car and has car insurance, so expansion is difficult especially since there arent many differentiating factors, so companies tend to advertise to just keep there current market share. Charity on the other hand has plenty of room for expansion, it can be as much as the disposable income of the country, if you watch an aspca ad and donate your likely to keep donating to the other causes you support, assuming you have the disposable income.
