One day I’ll have more to do and you people will be rid of me.
And that day will be a sad one.

Might be a bit difficult for people in landlocked areas.
And for those that are able to keep to just one subscription, switching to another when they’ve finished watching whatever show it is that said service had, they aren’t safe either.
One of the next steps that these corporations are going to take is to add fees for dropping their services, with year long contracts.
They don’t want competition, so they will try to force you to stay.
That’s not something that really works with industries that are zero sum games. You can’t have a dozen competing rail companies in a given state because there is only so many paths that a rail system can take, and you need to clear out continuous stretches of land through eminent domain.
If a company provides a vital services and fails, it should be nationalized. If a company does not provide a vital service and fails, it shouldbe allowed to fail and the employees themselves bailed out.
The democrats will just pick another stinker. How do you think we got Biden in the first place?
The two party system needs to be fixed before we will see any actually good candidates.
We’re winning! A psychic said so!
Not really seeing anybody saying this. The sentiment moreso seems that it’s just laughing at fox news stupidity.
Because enshitifying their service would earn them short term profits, which is the only thing corps/shareholders care about.
Go for it. It was already an old, long dead meme when I posted it here.
This but corps
The air is plenty clean as it is
Tell that to the people in East Palestine Ohio. Tell that to the people that live near coal plants.
as long as you don’t live in California
Doesn’t matter where you live if the planet is uninhabitable.
Agreed. Though it has crossed my mind that the in universe explanation for why the Federation is so enlightened and willing to care for all of its citizens because of the horrors Earth went through.
But yeah, definitely would like to avoid WW3/the Bell Riots.
Warhammer is for the tabletop. Anything more is a living nightmare.
Don’t worry! WW3 will be preceeded by the Bell Riots, a collection of revolts by people treated inhumanely and stuck in slums. It will be a fun little distraction before the fireworks. It’s even got it’s own count down now!
According to Star Trek lore, WW3 will begin in 3 years, and last for 27 years.
Buckle up.
Instead the way to go about this is MORE democracy not less of it.
Agreed. Some good steps to take:
Switching to approval/STAR voting (far fewer flaws than FPTP, generaly better than ranked)
Requiring all companies to be worker owned democracies. We don’t accept dictators or monarchists in government, so why would we accept that kind of tyranny in our work?
Shit loads of anti-corruption efforts. As of right now, politics is controlled with money, and politicians effectively get a free pass to use their office for personal gain. That shit needs to end.
Generally, higher voter turnout means that the far right loses.
If influence is not in the hand of the average citizen, it is instead in the hands of the elite, which is far, far worse.
Wanting to breath clean air on a habitable planet isn’t insanity.
Sure, but it wouldn’t be the first thing. When humans became seafaring the same diffusion of mates happened. It was then exacerbated by the invention of the train. And then even further with airplanes. And in the digital age people meet each other online despite living thousands of miles away.
Becoming space faring would also exacerbate the issue, but it wouldn’t be the start.
Presumably they would have solved this issue before becoming space fairing/having Orions available. If so, I’d imagine they’d be most likely to stick with their original solution out of tradition and simplicity.
They would probably actually have a decent shot at getting away with it, at least at first.
And to answer your question, it’s because the anger that companies generate by doing this shit ends up turning into piracy. Why would you try to punish a corp for doing this (likely wasting your time) when a cheap VPN and basic tech literacy gets you what you want?
The effort ratios are way out of wack when it comes to digital products. It’s easy to get around digital bullshitery, not so much in the real world where we are all car dependant.
