I hear ya, but various cities are re-thinking this to help revitalize their downtowns. For example, streets can be made pedestrian-only during the summer to create outdoor dining or event spaces then returned to car-focused during the winter. Businesses love this because it turns out if you have a lot of people just wandering around, more people come into your business. So next time the roads need major repairs, they are redesigned to be pedestrian-focused in summer and car-focused in winter.

I dunno why the spam of politics is there

I think it’s a combination of:

• people on Lemmy/Piefed tend to be more politically engaged, so political posts tend to be more active
• corporate platforms push inoffensive lowest-common-denominator mush in their default feed. But on Lemmy/Piefed it’s the user’s job to curate their feed.

Looking attentive in meetings, that’s a skill. It’s a good one to practice. People can tell if you’re indifferent to them.

At some point in your life you’re going to be in a meeting with someone you really want to impress. Will you have that skill? Or will you only think that you do?

It’s built to train people in the basics of cybersecurity. They apparently have resources that are aimed at middle-schoolers and high-schoolers but I’m not very familiar with those, you’ll have to dig around.

You’ll see references to “CTF”. That means “Capture the Flag” which is a type of hacker game/competition/exercise.

I’da thought that watching the corpo brainrot would be punishment enough in itself.

the performance difference is night and day

People say this, but… performance for what? To show us ads?

I’d much rather take the slightly-lower-performance browser that doesn’t show ads. My brain cycles count as performance too.

To be a redditor means you must think at all times: “What if I offend an advertiser?”
