The instances thing is hard to wrap my head around. Or it is not presented in a user-friendly way. There is a “memes” sub in lemmy.world and a dozen of other instances and coming from reddit its not clear what contexts those instances carry. See, there are the same propaganda bubbles as on reddit where you get banned from voicing a different opinion. But here those bubbles are on instance level. So memes on lemmy.northkorea might actually not be memes but kim posting propaganda. I think the fediverse does a better job at keeping ban horny admins at bay. But it comes with added complexity and more disparsed communities.

830·9 days agoIsrael should have handled that way more elegant. See theres just a bunch of teens on a boat, seize it, invite them to some kind of PR Dinner with a diplomat of some sort and deport them home with a huge handling fee. Treat them nice with a fat bill. Sun Tzu would be proud. Instead they do this…

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you treat the yard as a room of your house?English
1·9 days agobackyard is a cool place for kids to play, set up tents, pools, swings, play ball catch etc. If you’re not in such a family situation, lawn might be wasted on you. I feel like if i was DINK, i’d try to make it a veggie garden. Cucumbers are 1€ here. Bet i can grow em cheaper. Remaining lawns grasscuts are perfect fertilizer.

42·11 days agomeanwhile usa is a direct threat? Also why not stop trade with these shithole countries?
There was a coup in 1962 where they abducted and killed him according to wikipedia. So they had 5 good years.
So saddening to see there was a person who wanted a better life for everyone killed by envious monkeys with guns. Should probably have implemented gureilla tactics in his kingdom to not be such an easy target.

Europe@feddit.org•Are German companies leaving the country?English
35·12 days agoAnectdotical, my comp, 1000+ employees is saving 5% p.a. in germany (reducing personnel) and creating a new HQ in poland.
I think political insecurity is a driving factor. Politicians left and right are making more extreme claims every week and there is no middle anymore.
Also german law/guidelines and enforcements. The GDPR authority eyes german companies very closely. Its easy to hold you accountable if your assets are in the same country, same city as the authority office even. Harder to do if they are in another country. Poland is known to ignore eu law even. i feel like my comp is eyed more closely than meta and google just because of this. This is the same with Antitrust laws, consumer protection and their whole cease-and-desist industry. I get these are good laws but i feel like they are only applied to german companies. Noone cares about Amazon, Temu… but as a german comp you have the ever tangling sword of damocles above your head.

Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•How do websites like Anna's archive hide their hosting infrastructure?English
65·14 days agoOld Oil mining rigs are known to be used for that. Other than that, as long your IP is sufficiently masked it doesnt matter if your servers are prominent or hidden in a bunker. Noone knows whats inside besides operators.
However, i think they broke TOR’s vpn ip masking by analysing traffic patterns on network nodes. So if they really wanna catch you, you are better somewhere they have no way of coming close. Think russia or other countries not too friendly with usa and not giving a flying fuck about copyright. The physical location of servers that is. The admin could sit comfy in the usa.
Also you could have the data encrypted on an AWS bucket but the server decrypting that should be more secure. Not sure how much traffic those sites have but that could ease the strain of on premise infrastructure you have to maintain.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the process of becoming a father minus a partner?English
16·16 days agoYou’ll always have the risk of the mother changing mind and keep the kid i think. Children need their mother. Trying to force that life on a child because that’s your lifestyle is not selfish, it’s psycho.
The whole game around finding someone you actually like has a reason. The resulting child will have traits of both parents. Of course some of our character is due to experience but you underestimate how much of it is imprinted.

Noob question: are war crimes ok if its tit for tat or is he really wanted by hague now?
