Yep, this study would have to divide things up by age. As a fellow member of the Oregon Trail generation, all my early computers were also Apple ][ and b&w macs. But then eventually by young adulthood it all turned into PCs.

I enjoyed a stint with Solaris in college (that’s SUN Solaris thankyouverymuch) which I consider my true intro to Linux/posix/whatever-ix.

  • Sure, but the people who need to see this message are the ones who fell all over themselves to vote for the convicted felon on pre-sentencing release who tried to overthrow the government after the last election.

Asking them to form a sensible opinion based on hundreds of pages describing how they’re going to fuck over anybody who isn’t a rich white man — it just feels orders of magnitude more complicated and subtle than whether it makes sense to vote for the criminal who has betrayed the country and insulted service members multiple times.

  • Gates was the guy nerds were supposed to hate decades ago because Microsoft and billionaire. But that feels fun and innocent compared with today where the billionaires are actively trying to destroy society and ruin people’s lives as opposed to just exploiting them for their labor.

  • Gotta love when the conspiracy is so stupid that it’s the people who dedicated their lives to building and spreading human knowledge are the ones keeping the knowledge away from Joe public.

You know how Trump has been called the poor person’s idea of a rich person? I’m trying to think of the caricature they use for “scientist” in their minds. Maybe a woke Joe Rogan?

Well of course they don’t say that. They have negative sounding terms like the old “bleeding heart liberal,” because as every good conservative knows it is weakness and foolishness to give a shit about other people.

I guess today they would just go for woke. It’s short and meaningless, but it started out being used by minorities so again every good conservative knows it’s a bad thing and a killer insult.

This whole “like a man” thing sounds to me like an extension of the toxic cultural BS where “men” are not just humans with emotions and needs like every other human. It reeks of men who are too scared or ignorant to be self-aware and figure out what life really means to them, and thus they need the people around them (especially the partners) to play along in their power/masculinity fantasy.

What a man needs is to realize he’s just another human, and that for humans happiness and fulfillment can ultimately only come from within. Relationships with others are crucial, and you might even need some medication to get your brain chemistry unfucked, but neither of those are independently going to make you happy with yourself and “feel like a man.”

“A man” can refer to roughly half the adult population. It’s not exactly an exclusive club. Why not leave gender out if it and try to be “a good person” and see where that gets you?

Having the people around you walking on eggshells to keep your manly ego intact, whether it’s out of fear or pity, is the exact opposite of what a good person should strive for. What if the people around you instead trust you, feel safe with you, laugh with you, and are better off with you in their lives?

Source: Am man. Went through some stuff. Figured some things out. Made some things better. Have wife and child who enjoy life.

I recently noticed the accessibility settings in Brotato, which are a great example of this. In addition to the normal difficulty setting, in accessibility they give you access to sliders for enemy health/damage/speed and some toggles for other visual and difficulty features.

The only option I use is being able to restart a wave after a death rather than losing the whole run, and it’s kept me occasionally playing the game and enjoying what the devs have created.
