In this screenshot I had been streaming a 14mbps 4k video and doing a 1080p screen recording in OBS for about 30 minutes. You can see the CPU is still about 60% idle. The case is warm (expected because it acts as a heat sink), but it’s nowhere near the point where you’d need to worry about thermal throttling. It’s doing its job dissipating heat for this workload, and the system has remained perfectly responsive while doing other tasks.

I use an M2 air with 16GB RAM for a very similar workload all day every day. It is more than capable, and thermal throttling is not an issue for those tasks which are not CPU or GPU heavy at all. a Pro is absolutely not necessary unless you need to hook up to multiple monitors (air is limited to 1 external display) or you really need the various physical ports that the pro has.

I suspect anyone saying “just get a pro if it’s for work” or “you need a fan with that much going on” has not actually used an Air or know how powerful and efficient they are. It’s 100% wrong.

I was with you up until the shift away from multiplayer part. I do not see that happening at all, and I don’t even like multiplayer games myself. There’s no denying that more multiplayer has been the trend for the last 30 years, spanning multiple (people) generations, and I don’t see AI changing that.

there is also a causation question. I’m similar to you, I don’t get sick much so I don’t have much reason to be obsessive about cleanliness (of course I am hygienic and practice normal food safety). but my wife gets sick often and that causes her to be extra super careful about foods she eats, cleaning, hand sanitizing, etc.

yeah I would like to leverage AI for stuff like RPG NPCs. instead of hearing the same filler lines for 200 hours of gameplay, barely reacting to the context of your game you could have a vibrant array of endless dialog that actually keeps up with your game progress (or lack thereof).

yeah I agree those are a good option too, but that doesn’t solve the issue of replacing a worn out battery. that’s why I think we need swappable batteries.

yeah and with a swappable system with a couple battery sizes you could do that. and I could choose a slimmer battery.

I think the battery system that’s best for everyone would be user-replaceable batteries. That way you can have an extra battery on hand to swap in as needed, or even extra-capacity batteries that make your phone a little thicker for people who are okay with that.

Those of us who do actually prefer thinner, lighter phones can still have them (maybe with a slight increase in thickness to accommodate the attachment mechanisms). Plus bigger batteries are a huge waste of resources if the capacity isn’t going to be used.

We NEED to hear others, if not just for the fact that others may NEED to hear our voices too.

We have tried engaging in good faith, but they don’t WANT to hear us. For example, the mods of !worldnews@lemmy.ml (specifically https://lemmy.ml/u/OurToothbrush) ban for people for simply disagreeing with them. Happened to me and I’ve seen multiple others.

This is about open-source being open.

I think the fair thing to do, is to respond in the same scale (i. e. blocking specific users) instead of going all ballistic with instance blocks.

it’s not just random users, the mods of larger communities like !worldnews@lemmy.ml will delete your comments and ban you simply for disagreeing with them.

yep I got banned from there for simply stating that ukraine has a right to defend themselves after Modi called for “peace”. Apparently absolute pacifism is only required from one side.
