I think in their case it may have been an ADA requirement, because two of the outside spaces were handicapped spaces. But overall the application of the regulation or the intersection of it with city codes has an awful net result. Just outside of the parking lot is another parking lot for the connected strip mall that has more than enough spaces for anyone to park there even when people are going in and out of the adjacent office buildings and warehouses…but yet they had to lose a spacious, outdoor area with probably 10 or 20 separate picnic tables and restore the parking anyway.
Parking requirements totally killed the vibe at a brewery by me. During COVID they were relaxed so that there was more outside seating, and then the permit was revoked. Now there’s 16 more parking spots and three total outside tables. Totally sucks.
Yeah I’m not a huge fan of their recent “direction” either, but it actually would’ve been a lot more innovative for Nintendo to offer a headless switch in a tiny form factor. Maybe that’s just the old, highly innovative ways of Nintendo going by the wayside.
It’s a shame because Nintendo is a lot more accessible from a “casual gamer” perspective. I’ve even gotten my parents to play switch and wii games over the years. I don’t think they’d ever touch an xbox or ps.
Give me a Switch without a screen. No battery. No detachable controllers. Just a brick that plugs into the wall and the TV, compatible with a Pro controller. Probably could even sell that at a reduced price too. Maybe even overclock it and give it a bigger cooling solution to get better performance. Maybe Nintendo’s newer games can actually run at a stable 60 fps on their own hardware finally.
I’m actually in the same boat. I hardly ever play the switch in handheld mode. It is incredibly uncomfortable for anyone over the age and/or hand size of a 12 year old. The form factor is terrible for mobile use IMO. Even when we don’t play the switch docked on the TV, we have taken to playing it plugged into a small USB-C monitor on a side table in front of the couch.
I really wish Nintendo would offer a different option like you’re saying here. The only thing that’s nice about the Switch form factor is the size for portability IMO. Scrap the screen (and probably even the battery) and offer an option that’s as small as (or even smaller than) one of those NUC-looking mini PCs that are all the rage nowadays.
Disappointing to say the least.
My wife loves the switch but has gone through 3 or 4 different sets of controllers. I tried my hand at repairing one of them and it was not fun – to put it mildly – and I do not savor repeating the experience. I honestly did not know there were hall effect replacements for the original joycon sticks, and wish I had known that when I replaced the one I did.
Who the fuck drinks coffee for 58 minutes?
Metric made a song (partially) about this catch 22.
No you’re not overreacting, but if you’re in America unfortunately you basically have to drive to be a full fledged person. Our governments do not provide you a reasonable alternative. I’d personally love to quit myself, but I’m the only driver in my household.
Nice!
Nope, I’m a dude. It also wasn’t that it didn’t fit at all. It just didn’t fit comfortably (in jeans). In PJ pants they stuck out the top of the pocket loosely and I had more than one phone flop out onto the ground while I was walking my dog.
I’m not indicating that narcissism and lack of empathy are exclusively American things, but instead that it’s a pervasive and near dominant mentality in America.
“Greed is good” is practically our country’s mantra. The golden rule here is whoever has the gold makes the rules (quite literally).
AI is making searching easier and more convenient and reducing the amount of clicks (often to zero) you need before you get the inaccurate information you didn’t want.

Hey, is that the ICQ logo?
Dead Internet theorists were right, just a half decade or so early.
The US is number ONE…in bullshit.
If you’re a Trump-loving magat, then you only care about virtue signaling and performative bullshit when Hollywood celebrities, Democrats, and online socialists do it…and completely ignore that Trump-lovers and Trump himself love performative bullshit and solely prefer a different – crueler and more toxic – variety.
It’s an aesthetic land full of people who see nothing wrong with screwing over any number of others as long as it leads to fortune, fame, power, or the grand trifecta. Morals, values, and virtues have long since been thrown out as fictional concepts unworthy of any potentially damaging action to uphold or analysis over whether they were lost in any exchange.
I have a slim wallet myself. It’s not just bulky phones I hate carrying around. I have a keychain that allows me to drop portions of my keys when I don’t need something. I like traveling light.
Phablets being in style at the same time as slim fit jeans felt like some kind of special curse from hell.
Another thing I like about the model year razr i bought is that it has only a small display on the outside. I can close the clamshell and disconnect from online junk for a while.
Phablet style phones don’t fit comfortably in any pants I’ve ever worn. I think phones almost, mostly fit up to 5" or so, but most phones are much larger.
The razr when folded is probably less thick than a normal bifold wallet and is half the size of a candy bar phone. It fits closed in every pair of pants i own including pajama pants.
Of course, Trump is the biggest business idiot in the country. He was largely elected because he is the big, dumb mascot of business idiots.
