  • Yeah! We need to make it really clear that we don’t care about the really big greenhouse gas producers, or the people that are a thousand times more wealthy and more problematic than Tailor Swift.

We just want to sound like we care by targeting someone who is comparatively not doing that much damage.

It’s all for the lulls after all.

  • Good question.

Ok, so let’s say the artist does exactly what the AI does, in that they don’t try to do anything unique, just looking around at existing content and trying to mix and mash existing ideas. No developing of their own style, no curiosity of art history, no humanity, nothing. In this case I would say that they are mechanically doing the exact same thing as an AI is doing. Do I think I they should get payed. Yes! They spent a good chunk of their life developing this skill, they are a human, they deserve to get their basic needs met and not die of hunger or exposure. Now, this is a strange case because 99.99% of artists don’t do this. Most develop a unique style and add life experience in their art to generate something new.

A Software Engineer can profit off their AI model by selling it. If they are make money by generating images, then they are making money off of hard working artists that should be payed for their work. That isn’t great. The outcome of allowing this is that art will no longer be something you can do to make a living. This is bad for society.

It also should be noted that a Software Engineer making an AI model from scratch is 0.01% of the AIs being used. Most people, lay people, who have spent very little time developing art or Software Engineering skills can easily use an existing model to create “art”. The result of this is that many talented artists that could bring new and interesting ideas to world are being out competed by one guy with a web browser producing sub-par sloppy work.

  • The Republicans should never have gone down this road in the first place.

I think this is the crutch of our disagreement. My question to you is why? The Republicans want power. They want to turn the US into a Free Market Theocracy. Why shouldn’t they do what they are doing? I personally think what they are doing is bad, but why should they care?

Getting mad at the Democrats for not being good enough to stop that is akin to victim blaming.

I am more interested in your response to my first point, but I couldn’t let this stand. It’s such a bad comparison. Both the Dems and Republicans are fighting for power, they are not a victim and an aggressor, they are both aggressors.

Do you blame the thief, or do you blame the homeowner for not having better locks?

I blame the police for not arresting the thief when they revealed their plans to rob my house before they robbed it.

  • I don’t think you understand. No reasonable person thinks that republicans are good or not to blame. Blaming the republicans won’t stop them from taking power. They have done and continue to do what they have said they will do and the Democratic party has done nothing to stop them.

It’s like your sky diving, and your parachute fails to open. Do you get upset at gravity or the guy who packed your parachute? Yeah, gravity is what is going to kill you, but it doesn’t care, that was the plan. The guy who packed the parachute is your only real way of controlling the situation.

The Democratic Party packed the parachute and it isn’t opening. Hopefully it does soon.

How much do the Democrats need to mess up before they can be considered to be working with the Republicans instead of against them?

Clinton was one whoopsie in a chain of mistakes that has led us here.

Edit: I am getting a significant amount of replies saying that I’m being mean to Hillary. To be clear, I’m not dogging on her. She did her best. I’m upset at the Democratic party for putting her against Trump. She lacks charisma, it’s not her fault.
