But even by USA capitalist standards, this specific man was a monster who in a just world wouldn’t be allowed to be in charge of anything. The world is slightly better off without such a greedy and heartless man in it.

I am a pacifist, and I recognize the danger of encouraging/pardoning vigilantism. There are people I feel are heroes, who others view as villains. People should argue, debate, and put pressure as much as possible with non violence… but that is clearly not working for the ultra wealthy who are so insulated from 99.9% of what we can do.

The murdered man was, even by US capitalist standards, excessively evil. In a functioning and just system he would have had life in prison with no chance of parole for 1000+ counts of at the very least man slaughter for the millions of people whose health care was delayed or prevented. The world is a slightly better place without that level of extreme greed and heartlessness in it.

I also feel like the main point of prison “SHOULD” be Prevention and Rehabilitation. Which if the Attacker was personally harmed by a CEO and lashed out, I don’t think prison can accomplish either for him. I guess the US gov probably disagrees and thinks he should be rehabilitated as someone who is okay with being exploited by CEOs.

But I do want all evidence laid out, I want a jury to determine if he’s unhinged and a danger to others, or someone who was hurt on a fundamental level and lashed out. We of course assume it’s the second one, but we don’t know yet.

Juries and judges will sometimes use the kid gloves when dealing with people who kill their abusers, and I think a light sentence with the message of “murder is wrong… but so is allowing thousands to die to increase profits. So maybe don’t be so evil people wouldn’t mind giving up 10 years of their lives to see you removed from this world” would be fine.

… but also if this becomes another one of a million unsolved cases, I won’t lose a wink of sleep about it.

The head line is nonsense. They are not in the EU and they don’t have over 45 million users in the EU. So the rules in no way apply to them.

Ooh I tried growing some mushrooms before! I got 2 good harvests and that was cool, but didn’t seem worth the effort beyond the fun factor in such small amounts. But with some of them costing $10 a pound and being able to be grown in doors if well ventilated, I bet if you get things going you should be able to make decent money without a ton of effort.

I usually try not to say “youtubers are making the world better”, but the youtubers who are all about educating about scams and talking about how common they are and how anyone can fall for them I think does help. But really, my love for people who make money through scrapping/recycling are legends. On a global scale one person doesn’t make a difference, but on a local scale it clearly does.

Oh yeah if you like photography as a hobby and already have decent gear, I remember my mom would occasionally do that from time to time! A couple weddings, engagement photos, senior pictures, stuff like that. Someone who understands the basic of how cameras react lighting and is willing to put thought into composition of the photo makes a world of difference compared to folks who don’t.

I’ve “debated” doing that, since I’m debt free aside from mortgage and have a good credit score, so I could probably open enough cards to get the cycle moving. But the research to find the best hidden gems of reward programs is probably hard.

Other thing I’ve seen people with great credit scores do is basically put EVERYTHING on 0% intro credit cards, pay minimums, save all the money in a HYSA or a mutual fund, then pay off the balance right before the 0% ends, and then open a new 0% card and repeat. Which seems finicky, but basically gives yourself a 4-8% raise if you set it up to just take care of itself automatically.

Seriously, just post on marketplace “Free thing sitting out on corner of XYZ, no holds, I’ll let you know if it’s there or not” So much really good stuff ends up at the dump out of laziness.

I just do love side hustles that actually make a positive impact on their community, and I think all those do for sure do.
