  • Hint: Germans didn’t fix it by themselves.

Of course, but the rest of the world didn’t take those actions until after the German military moved into several other countries. And that action was done in the defense of those other countries as much as it was to spank the Germans.

Nobody is coming to the US to save the US from itself. Things will have to get a helluva lot worse before that happens.

And it won’t be done to rescue the Americans, it will be intended to beat them into submission.

Plus, the rest of the world remembers that the Americans didn’t help us in WW2 until the war finally came to their shores, after the rest of us had been fighting for 3 years.

  • or something ultra specific that is super easy to source from any other country, to exclusively hurt the american businesses

That was part of what went into how Canada chose the targets of our first rounds of counter-tariffs.

Product categories that we also make here, or can easily get elsewhere or can comfortably do without for an extended period of time.

That combined with a consumer led boycott of anything "made in the USA " and even staunch Republicans like Mitch McConnell are starting to push back against Trump.

  • Google scans YouTube videos for information about what products appear in them

Yes, but not specifically looking for products. They’re scanning to try to learn everything about the video with the goal of better matching suggestions to the interests (as determined by watch history) of viewers.

The intention is (as always) to increase viewer session time because the more time viewers spend on the platform, the more ads they see and ultimately the more money YouTube makes.

Of course, that scanning and view history can also be used to target ads with the goal of increasing ad click-thru and conversion (ultimately also driving the profit goal)
