Nah this is bullshit, and I’m shocked to see it coming from the EFF. If you can’t build your ML model without stealing other peoples’ work to do it, don’t fucking do it. The purpose of IP law is to ensure that people who create are compensated for their work, and I never thought in a million years I’d see the EFF arguing against the protection of people over business.

I disagree on trolls. Like obviously some amount of fucking about is acceptable, but it really depends on the community and what they’re trying to do. If your community is about memes and joking around then great, do whatever, but if it’s based around serious adult conversation then it’s disruptive and counterproductive. Anyway, I just think that like anything in life moderation is a spectrum and the optimal solution is probably somewhere in the middle rather than at either end. I don’t mind people shitting on my opinions so long as they do it by engaging with my arguments and offering their own, not going ‘you’re stupid lol’ or whatever.

It is entirely possible to moderate too much, to quash the voice of your community in your rabid attempt to keep the community free of trolls and such. As with most things in life, there is a balance to be struck in the trade-off between the wild west and the gulag.

No, movies and music files are already compressed, so compressing them further won’t gain anything. In fact it will actually increase the file size because compressed files require some overhead. So even winrar won’t help, though it might be convenient to have one big file with everything in it (you can even break it up into multiple part files.)

Do you play video games? Read books? Play tabletop roleplaying games? Knit? There are public and private discord communities for all of those things and more. Go find one and join it. I lost my two closest friends who I had known for almost 3 decades in a couple of years apart and realized that without those two I didn’t really have any other friends that I hung out and spent time with, and I started really feeling lonely, and I’m practically a shut-in and don’t make friends easily either. Fortunately I lucked into two things that made a world of difference: a couple of TTRPG discords that I am now decent to good friends with all of the members, and a private gaming community. Between them they have about 350 people in them, and I have made a point of hanging out with them and trying to make friends, and I’ve met quite a few people I get along with really well, and I always have people to play tabletop or video games with.

I was perma-banned 11 hours before my temp-ban appeal was lifted. Then I was unbanned, but they sent a message saying my ban would stay. I think they’re just falling over themselves in their headlong rush to embrace fascism.
