A woman I know did just that, except she wrote a book during her “off” years.

limelight79@lemm.eeto Not The Onion@lemmy.world•Texas man sues Whataburger for nearly $1 million after burger had onions on itEnglish7·23 days agoThere’s a great Carolyn Hax advice column from years ago where the writer’s partner was vegetarian because he was actually allergic to meat.
Writer’s family thinks it’s a lie and sneaks meat into a meal. That results in a ride in the “screaming white bus,” as Carolyn put it, to the hospital.
The writer defended her family and insisted it was just a joke, and partner was taking it too seriously. I’ve left out a lot of detail, but Carolyn basically tells the partner he should run from this relationship.
limelight79@lemm.eeto Linux@lemmy.ml•Is Linux compatible with touchscreen/2 in 1 laptops?1·26 days agoMy previous laptop had a touch screen, and the Linux driver worked for it with no configuration on my end. Not exactly what you’re asking about, but I was impressed by how it “just worked”.
But that was a traditional laptop.
I tried it and didn’t like it, but obviously that’s just a personal opinion - several other people in this thread have said it’s good. I like Coke and I like orange cream soda, but the two together just didn’t work for me.
I’m team Vanilla Coke. I hated that during the pandemic I usually couldn’t get it; and even now, the grocery store might only have one or two 12-packs in stock when we need it. But cherry (and cherry vanilla) is also pretty good, and I like to mix it up sometimes.

It’s too big for many people. It’s not as functional (in terms of towing and hauling) as a regular pickup. People who buy pickups for business uses are, for the most part, are going to be very nervous about buying an electric vehicle from a relatively new manufacturer.
Even if you put aside the issues with Elon: The issue with the Cybertruck is that Elon never understood it was a novelty vehicle. The traditional auto manufacturers make these novelty vehicles from time to time, but the difference is that they understand what they’re building and know they’re only going to sell 10,000 or something per year, and probably for a short run.
Elon’s so far up his own ass that he doesn’t understand why everyone isn’t buying one.
Can’t I grill food? Or cook it on the range? Why do I have to use my oven to make meals?

Stop and buy supplies of course! Even most grocery stores carry disposable litter pans, or just a plastic bin, along with food. Even a paper bowl will work for water.
One of our cats had a serious medical issue (we think a tick bit her, but we don’t know for sure), and after she recovered, she attacked her own tail one night. Woke up the next morning to find blood all over the house. Poor kitty ended up having part of her tail docked. :(

For legitimate reasons, I deposit large amounts of cash into a business account a few times each year. I report my social security info each time, and I’ve never once been contacted about it.
Just move it at once. Don’t do the structuring thing that was explained elsewhere. Or do a wire transfer.

We had to take another cat to the vet a few weeks ago, so I went to grab it… Nope, occupied, with the wrong cat. Rather than deal with that, I just got a different carrier.
limelight79@lemm.eeto cats@lemmy.world•We're getting older together and it makes me smile as often as it breaks my heart3·2 months agoWe have two that are getting up there in age. They’re both active, but the signs are there. One has irritable bowel syndrome and asthma is on medication for both. His black fur has faded in some spots, too - not much, but there are definitely spots that are a bit more brown in his legs.
The other seems healthy, but his urine had some protein and there is a slightly elevated number in his bloodwork for his liver (I think). The vet isn’t sure what those mean yet, and they want him to get an ultrasound (they just told us yesterday, and we haven’t had the chance to schedule it yet).
It’s possible he also has IBS, which would at least mean we’re used to dealing with it. He’s already eating the right food.
Odds are good we have years with them yet, but it’s a sign they’re getting older, and a reminder that some day they’ll be gone. :(

Looks like there’s one, the Nissan Versa.
Yeah. We have a 2009 MacBook pro here that still works great, other than being horrendously out of date. I was getting 6+ hours of battery life out of it when it was new, which is pretty surprising in those days.
And OS X is pretty nice (or was for the life of that laptop, I haven’t used it much since then), and still Unix.
When my wife needed a new laptop a few years ago, we got her a Mac, because it’s just so much less maintenance for me, compared to Windows. (She uses some stuff that Linux does not yet support.)
