mesa@piefed.socialto Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Pdf to odt/docx conversion has me weeping!English41·1 day agoAs a dev the reason pdf is so strange is because it’s a compound format. It can be just images strung together. It can also be pure text with fonts, ect…etc …
If you open the file as a text file, you can see this. It’s many different formats in a trenchcoat.

mesa@piefed.socialto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Isn't Lemmy a treasure-trove for AI scrapers?English1·2 days agoA lot of data gets deleted after a while. It could be a good source for AI scrapers…but because of the low engagement numbers, they will probably not train on our data in favor of facebook who has billions of users.
mesa@piefed.socialOPto Technology@lemmy.world•Google is intentionally throttling YouTube videos, slowing down users with ad blockersEnglish2·2 days agoDirect sponsoring has worked in the past with many open source projects (including lemmy.world). Could be closer to what Patreon does.

mesa@piefed.socialOPto Technology@lemmy.world•Google is intentionally throttling YouTube videos, slowing down users with ad blockersEnglish24·2 days agoMy wife and I were discussing this. This isnt “slow” to us, its just a tiny bit inconvenient. We were used to the old AOL pictures taking a good minute or two to load.
We would get rid of Youtube before we get ads.

mesa@piefed.socialOPto Technology@lemmy.world•Google is intentionally throttling YouTube videos, slowing down users with ad blockersEnglish15·3 days agoUblock origin (if your using it) “fixed” the issue shortly after. Im convinced someone at google works on adblock lol. Probably not true but the timing was really fast.
mesa@piefed.socialOPto Technology@lemmy.world•Google is intentionally throttling YouTube videos, slowing down users with ad blockersEnglish4·3 days agoYeah Peertube is awesome. It already scales very well with its tech. Its been growing too. I think its good to have multiple alternatives. Its a good free option.
Ultimately the platform is the last important part of watching a video. If the creators can get more $$/activity going somewhere else they will. It happened to Vimeo, it will happen to Youtube.
mesa@piefed.socialOPto Technology@lemmy.world•Google is intentionally throttling YouTube videos, slowing down users with ad blockersEnglish10·3 days agoMy ip was blocked a LONG time ago by google for using yt-dlp. Works with VPN but nothing else. Fun times. I think I only pulled a couple of videos off for archival services. On my own channel non-the-less.
Ill have to give the video a shot. Ive been looking for an easy way to pull ActivityHub data from the fediverse and come across many different implementations. It makes it hard to implement the “correct” way that each platform likes.
The closest I got was using: https://pypi.org/project/Mastodon.py/ and then parts of the request library for a sample project that turns mastodon hashtags (only the first on a post) into lemmy/piefed/threadiverse communities for the user.
Ive had issues with personal instances and gotosocial with the bridge but not mastodon.social. Not sure if anyone else is having the issues.
Company policy and MS licensing agreements. Also while devs can work with any OS, most users are “used” to windows and windows based products. We are talking 30+ years at the job. So they just stay there.
Although its changing slowly. More and more apps are just web interfaces with makeup. Theres real talk that getting macs for certain departments. Its just one small step for linux at that point. And as people age out of the workforce, theres a push for newer tools…which dont require windows at all.
FFTactics like others was my favorite.
I quite enjoyed into the breach.
I bought a couple of tactics like games on steam and they all dont seem to be fun to me. I guess I like to grind a bit on fair but punishing tactics titles.
From what the video poster said its just being a silly cat.
