Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube adds new hurdles for ad blockers, and there's currently no way around itEnglish
34·9 days agoI don’t really get the sentiment here - what’s happening is the standard development if a public good (that youtube kind of was before google purchased them) gets privatized. It’s the same with communications (isn’t AT&T great?), water, electricity, rail infrastructure and trains, roads - investors are never good for the public good. They’re only good at lining their pockets.

261·2 months agoThe risk isn’t derived from the technology but how it is used. The proprietary technology is used to prevent farmers from creating their own seed (including using copy right laws) while increasing their dependency on matching pesticides. Industrial agriculture is not sustainable - insect populations are dwindling because every square foot of landscape is sprayed with poison. GMO is used to further industrialize agriculture, e.g. by making crops resistant to poison, which in turn can (and will) be used more liberally.

4·2 months ago[…] But we should claim the right to suppress them [intolerant ideologies] if necessary even by force; for it may easily turn out that they are not prepared to meet us on the level of rational argument, but begin by denouncing all argument; they may forbid their followers to listen to rational argument, because it is deceptive, and teach them to answer arguments by the use of their fists or pistols.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Why Does Driving Make People Crazy?English
321·2 months agoThere’s a study linking road rage to the level of authoritarianism in a country’s government. It’s also tightly linked to machismo.
I personally think that it has a lot to do with inadequate infrastructure that requires people to communicate while restricting possibilities for communication (i.e. multi lane roads with high speed limits), combined with lacking drivers’ ed and a fragmented highly individualistic society.
Yeah I didn’t get you right. Thanks for the explanation.

This kind of phrasing often refers to EU raising labor and environmental standards. Nobody is labeled a Russian for criticizing flaws in EU governing, like chat control or free trade agreements.
