This looks bad, but the last time Jared Hess and Jack Black teamed up we got Nacho Libre, which was good.

Screen durability and the distracting crease are the two biggest problems with foldables, so they are making a phone where a third of the screen is always unprotected, added an additional crease, and sharpened the radius of both creases. Hard pass for me (and most people), but this is more of a statement piece for their manufacturing and engineering prowess than a mass market product. Hopefully the advances they make will improve single fold devices.
I’m honestly surprised by this. They want him to self destruct on live television. If they make fun of him like they’ve been doing in every press release it will probably work.
This will require Harris to still command the room and come across as professional and presidential though, which might be harder than it sounds when Trump can tell as many outrageous lies as he wants. I think she can do it, but it’s a risk.
He was in a tough situation. We need to remember the extent of right wing vitriol and hate. Anyone who speaks out against Trump gets death threats. Their concerts would have had protestors outside. Continuing the tour could have been a safety risk for their fans. I’m not saying cancelling everything was the right move, but it’s not as simple as “dick riding for Donald Trump.”
I’m super excited for the mobile version but also worried about my future productivity
They definitely deserve this. Still, I hope their fab business works out because we need another high end fab (especially a US based one). It’s exorbitantly expensive, too much for anyone but an established player to enter the market.
What else about P9 is underwhelming? Genuinely curious, not trying to start an argument. I’ll be upgrading from a pixel 6, so maybe that’s why it all sounds fine to me. Ultrasonic fingerprint scanner was my biggest request and it sounds like that’s in.
I went through an scientology phase (academic interest, not a follower) and have seen a ton of documentaries on the topic. This one is by far the best, and really just a well made documentary in general.
Wild Wild Country
A bit overlong (typical for Netflix), but it has that irresistible “Surely this won’t get any crazier” thing going for it. It’s also a bit unique among cult documentaries in that the cult leader (technically second in command I think, but the de facto leader for a time) is interviewed and is remarkably candid about everything.
Make it powerful enough for the UI to be fast and smooth and I’ll upgrade in a heartbeat.
It feel spicy
I agree with this. But also, this time is the closest to “end of the world” stakes we’ve had in recent memory. We have a literal criminal, rapist, and fraudster who already tried to overthrow the government once leading the polls.
I know it’s just a meme, but Krusty would be a silly and ineffective president at worst. You’d have to combine the worst traits of many of the shows most horrible characters to create someone similar to trump, and even then I’m not sure any character in that show attempted a coup and sent a mob to attack the Capitol.
Compromise: Minimen
I can’t tell if this is a good idea or a bad idea. Probably a bad idea at that price point with those specs, but this seems like a much more usable and useful form factor than a fully head mounted system when you factor in the weight of the thing on your head and the input method. Like, I might actually be able to do work on this thing unlike an apple vision pro.
So I have some experience with this and have a few things I want to tell you:
Consider a dedicated sleep study. If you have sleep apnea, medication will not fix your problem and some medications may actually make it worse.
Xanax (an anxiety medication) and Ambien (a sleep medication) are very similar drugs with respect to their mechanism of action. Xanax binds to a specific group of receptors to cause anxiolytic effects and happens to also make you sleepy. Ambien binds to a subset of those same receptors to make you sleepy, but don’t have the strong anxiety reducing effect. If Xanax works for you, Ambien should theoretically have a similar effect. In practice, it doesn’t tend to work as well because anxiety can keep you awake. If that has been your experience with Ambien, think about taking some steps to address anxiety even if you don’t think it’s that bad. Yoga, counseling, meditation, whatever. There are also guided breathing audio sessions designed to put you to sleep in apps like Fitbit and calm that may be helpful.
You can also supplement a prescription sleep aid with something non prescription, which is what I do. I take Ambien, and to keep my dose low I supplement with melatonin, tryptophan, and valerian root when I need an extra kick into sleepiness. I’ve heard CBD is also quite effective for this. Magnesium reportedly also helps with restful sleep, but get a sleep formulation because magnesium in the wrong form causes diarrhea.
Don’t underestimate sleep hygiene. For a long time I had the attitude of “I have real sleep problems, basic stuff like cutting back caffeine is not going to help.” The thing is, when taken together, that kind of stuff actually can help tremendously. I scheduled a month where I went hardcore on sleep hygiene. Strict caffeine limits, no late caffeine or exercise, don’t do anything on your bed but sleep and sex, wake up at the same early time every day even when you don’t have to, limit screens before, bed… I mean ALL of it. I found that it actually really helped. In combination with medication it might be a life saver. Might be worth doing your own experiment with it.
Good luck!
Incompatible taste in music. My taste is the benchmark they have to meet and I will not compromise, obviously.
Streaming is getting worse, but it’s still way better than cable. Everything is on demand without having to fuss with a dvr, you can subscribe only to the services you want or rotate through them one at a time, and there are no contracts so you can cancel whenever you want.
Things could obviously be better, but we are nowhere close to how bad cable was/is.
A lot of telling us how good AI is and how Google is the best at it. I got a little excited when they said Gemini is going to change how we use our phones and I thought they might be announcing some big AI-forward redesign of Android, but it was just 3 things they’ve already launched, haha.
Context aware Gemini looks neat though.
That is not what “all cause mortality” means.
