This is a pretty bad take. It is the same as saying “I don’t care that these workers are underpaid and overworked - just let me (other people) enjoy the game.” No, bitch. This may explain why the same code review feedback needed to be written in every single PR made by our Indian offshore team. A couple of media related websites have started doing this recently. There is an influx of web scraping that has been causing performance degradation of the website, so requiring users to log in is a way of maintaining website performance for valid users.

I totally understand that a lot of people dont want to create accounts or give personal information, and I understand that website degradation is not always the driving factor.

Stoat desktop feels like it was just put in the oven, especially on Linux. It may get there someday, but I cannot recommend Stoat in good faith.

Probably has the same legal “protections” as Ship of Harkinian and the like - it requires you to own the ROM, and they are not profiting off of this work (at least not openly and brazenly). They are not bypassing any encryption using proprietary keys, and they are not redistributing any copywrited assets.
