  • The Steam Deck has been a lightning rod of getting gaming compatibility into the mainstream. The Proton compatibility layer works for most Steam games and the Proton DB will tell you the level of compatibility for a given game on Linux, https://www.protondb.com/ . Additionally, a number of other compatibility layers and ported front ends for GOG, Epic and various others are available and functioning (I can’t list them all as I only use Steam, but I’m all in on Fedora and have yet to find a game that won’t run). VR is working now on Linux (I have an Oculus Quest 2 I was given a couple years ago and it works flawlessly), as are most game pads. You can go with something like Bazzite which has a number of gaming specific compatibility tools built in, and it’s immutable so it’s a deliberate effort to break the thing. The only real limitations for software is anything Adobe (but there open source apps to fill that gap, GIMP is among the biggest) and MS Office M365 Copilot, which you can just use the Libre Office suite or if compatibility is a concern due to macros or addins, OnlyOffice is a decent alternative.

I don’t know if he survived more attempts than Castro, but you have to admire Tito’s responds after Stalin tried to have him killed 5 times:

Stalin. Stop sending assassins to murder me. We have already caught five, one with a bomb, another with a rifle. […] If this doesn’t stop, I will send one man to Moscow and there will be no need to send another.

  • Currently working on writing out scenes for a TTRPG campaign, but kicking around ideas for a horror short story. This Drifter is walking on the side of the road, gets offered a ride by this super rich preppy looking dude, promise of free food and a warm place to sleep. Drifter accepts and goes with Pretty Boy back to this lavish compound, like acres of isolated greenery. Drifter meets Pretty Boys family, mom, dad, brother, sister-in-law, mouth breathing children, catatonic grandma, they have dinner, quiz the Drifter on shit that essentially circles around “would anyone miss you?”, dinner finishes, Drifter showers and prepares to bed down, when the family turns out to be {insert monster type here, can’t decide between vampires, werewolves, garden variety psycho killers, etc.,} and they decide to dispatch the Drifter. The twist is that the Drifter is actually a far more ancient evil, like Elder Gods, Lovecraftian horror, in a human form as a lark. Family then goes on the run from the Drifter, trying to escape his power and ravenous hunger as he hunts them down one by one, praying for mercy. Just haven’t gotten around to starting it yet.
