Asking this because I saw an article being posted today but the fifth submission rule (which is part of the pinned post on top) states:
Post only images. No gifs, videos or articles.
the rules were written (and partially ripped off from r/art) towards the inception of the community, at a time when I naively believed we’d be flooded with all kinds of posts in need of tremendous filtration, but that proved to not be the case.
- Do you believe in the promotion of art regardless of the medium?
- Do you wish for a strict image only showcase of artworks?
- Do you favor the traditional_art taking a more forum-like path by encouraging texts and articles?
Just like how the video issue was settled, I’d like to open the article issue to the floor and let the viewers decide what’s best for the community moving forward.
I don’t think I’d
findmake the time to read articles so personally I’d prefer just having the art here (and of course articles can be linked to from the post body - but would probably be overlooked).I’m inclined to agree, but would not argue against having one day a week where it might be permitted.
Edit: To those that might disagree: I believe it is more important to grow the community at this stage rather than focus on purely posting images. If there are those here who wish to read and learn about art, we should accommodate as many as we can. One day a week would accomplish this, IMO.

It is settled then
I’d say that allowing articles would be good
Like articles about artists, art trends, art history type stuff
I would say that they should still be at moderators discretion.
Keep it art focused with good articles. Remove ones that don’t bring much for the reader.
Is very happily read art-related articles on here. Given how small the community is, I would have thought you could easily fit articles, reviews, manifestos etc. We’re not so overwhelmed with content.
If it starts to become too clogged up, then you split it off into its own community.
I’m all in about learning from whats posted here
Reading through the comments on the video post, someone mentioned a specific day, so maybe do a “Sunday Press” kind of thing.
It look like you’re referring to this post https://lemmy.world/post/18129858
I think articles about the art are great. As long as the article is focused on the actual artist or the art piece. I really don’t want some dudes life story on “how this painting influced me and blah blah”
It would depend on type of articles. Artwork analysis yes. News about lost and found WWII paintings, not so much.
Techniques and history I am not really sure.
I’m fine with articles, but would prefer them to be informative about process or history. It’d also be nice if any posted article included a piece of art in the thumbnail, so everyone still gets something to look at.
