I really loved the first book. It was perfectly ambiguous and the husband haunting the narrative was so good. I read authority and it kind of felt like a slog until the last 100 pages, but I’ve still got the other books on the shelf waiting for me to get to them.

I interpreted Authority as ‘purposefully boring’ if it makes any sense. It conveyed the feeling of losing your mind not in a wild and wondrous, albeit lethal, place, but in a grim bureaucratic setting.

I had read the entire series again just on purpose for Absolution!

By the way, what do you mean it’s connected to an ebook? The link goes to a blog post.

Don’t know why this is downvoted. Maybe because it’s linked directly to an ebook?

But it prompted me to go look up Jeff to see if he’s written anything lately as I absolutely loved Southern Reach series 1-3. And I learned that he published book 4 last year!!!

So thanks for making my day! 🤩

I really liked book 4, it felt closer to a return to the original Annihilation (though I also loved the more controversial 2 and 3).
